I am so tired right now but I started a conversation with bf via texts and now the thoughts and more about the convo are keeping me awake.
Why must a non-Muslim embrace Islam when marrying a Muslim?
So I have read a few blogs and articles and some argue that so long as you are a "people (person) of the book", it's fine to marry without disobeying God because they (The people of the book, aka, Christians and Jews) also believe in the one true God. So my problem is that they use the word "insist". I have problems when ultimatums are given.
And anyways, I honestly need to be told I'm acting like a bitch before I realise what I'm doing wrong. Was just about to give the bf a call at 12:30am to rant about what stupid things I had just read on the internet but suddenly, Mature Me stopped myself from making the childish call that would've most definitely turned into a fight.
Because, if I had called the bf I would've been bitching about his religion to him. So rude right? Lucky I stopped my natural bitchy urges in time. And cause it's hard for me to be factual without sounding bitchy(?) - as per experience - it would've let to a huge fight no doubt.
So… My fears are listed below if I marry bf under Sharia Law and not civilly.
3 MAJOR concerns:
- The Marriage Cert from marrying under Sharia Law via MUIS and not the ROM. Will it be in Malay? I want English. (Seriously no compromise because English is my first language.)
- My legal rights after marriage because apparently The Women's Act won't be applicable if a woman marries under Sharia Law because the Sharia Law would apply then instead of The Women's Act. - I'm still not sure about this as I probably only understood 70% of all the legal jargon when I read the statutes... (I guess sports law in RP and watching of Suits helped a lot. I'm still trying to grasp this whole legal aspect. May not be a concern after all, who knows!)
- Vows - If I have to marry under Sharia Law then I WANT to speak for myself at my solemnisation/marriage and not have someone represent me. I can speak for myself tyvm.
Other smaller issues:
- Wedding dress
- Going for the conversion classes - Aiyo so mafan. Really don't want to waste time and money to go for a class where I know I'll be suffering and trying not to gouge my eyes out from annoyance. Edit: Just did my research on the conversion classes at the Darul Arqam and the normal ones are 4 months + 2 months + 1 month + 2 months + 1 month (Intro + Beginner 1 + Beginner 2 + Solah 1 + Solah 2 + Sunnah). Dude, it's free but why so long.
- Rituals - how to mesh the Chinese and Malay ones together. (Because I honestly am intrigued with the Chinese traditions of pouring tea and new beds and bed sheets and red everything... :-))
- Alcohol at the reception!? - I wanna pop champagne!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Lying to the in-laws and to myself - I'm totes ok with lying. Won't be ok if others found out though. (So morally corrupt lol
- Muslim name
There was also another major concern that I had, but a seriously childish one. -> Having to be 2nd behind my husband. I am a boss bitch and I will be in charge or heads will roll. He already knows this and I have instilled that deeeeep into his bones so I guess there'll be no problems there haha!
Totes gonna talk with the bf about this… I may update on what happens? Am open to comments about my "views" cause I feel like they're very flawed. Lol.
