Well, thanks to sitting down and getting my thoughts out on all of this laid out last night, I was able to get a reply to my parents. I went ahead and wrote it to both of them, since this has been something that my mother has brought up for ages, so I figured that I may as well deal with this once and for all. I hope that they take it well. You made some very good points there! I wonder why they want you to be with somebody so bad that they'd even want you to be gay?

I have to wonder if perhaps they thought I was already in a male-male relationship, and that this would make me willing to open up about it? Or maybe they feel that I'm just avoiding that because of what they might think? Or perhaps they just plain know that my odds are better there -- my mum recalls from high school that women weren't all that keen on me, but guys went nuts over me, for some reason -- and figure I should switch teams to improve my chances?

Meh . . . Anyway, they did take it well, thankfully. :) They still wish I'd find someone, but I think they now understand that I'm not in a hurry, and I don't feel my being single is a bad thing, but that if/when the right one comes along for me, I won't shy away from it.
