mom will freak. don't mention it til you're sure it's happening. otherwise, you lose all cool aunt points.

My cousin is on Facebook, and 18 (so it might be diff, but he lives at home) but when his friends wrote on his profile, "hey lets hang out, unless you in jail...." I alerted my mom and she made the decision to talk to her brother about it. Hes been a reckless driver. But maybe yeah you talk to her first, and stay tuned in.... before you say anything else to your sis.

my mom often reminds me that sometimes when it comes to a child, privacy doesn't matter. they're children. they're supposed to have adults watching out for them. and what's more, they don't always know what's good for them.

my vote: tell your sister. let your sister know about what you read, but definitely talk to your niece. one of the traits of highly successful children is that they have at least 3 adults in their lives who are easily accessible, trustworthy, and not their parents. she will probably find you to be easier to relate to than her mom. you can help figure out what's going on with her and steer her in the right direction. she probably idolizes you and therefore will listen to you.
