More electronics

Just when you thought there couldn't possibly be another piece of electronics to strap on your body for a run ...

Some of my reading of late has touched upon running cadence. I presumed I have a somewhat efficient running style, but there's always room for improvement. I do think I lope. So lately I've been counting my running cadence, just like I ( Read more... )

top world class marathoners have a cadence around 100-110. I usually do upper 90s.

I find a treadmill is a great place to work on cadence and really, if you want to run outside and don't want the crazy beeping, just set your watch to beep every say, 1 minute every 15 (2 timers - 1 at 15 mins, 1 at 1 min) and then you get that little wake up call every 15 mins to count your steps and see what you're doing

Also if you just want to spot check, 90 spm (strides per minute) is 22-23 every 15 seconds, or 15 every 10 seconds.

You might try downloading some of the Podrunner podcasts and throwin them on an iPod. It's techno music set to a specific BPM and he's got several at 180 BPM (which would be a cadence of 90). I'm not a huge fan of techno/dance music, but I always found it more interesting than listening to a metronome on a long run.

I've found that come back from pregnancy, I'm unable to run at 90 any more so I'm starting again...

Yeah, the volume control is certainly lacking in finesse. When I use it, I'll usually clip it as far away from my ears as I can, like the back of my shorts band.

I would hope that you went over and sacked the QB just to prove the point?
