Having my groin touched

I'm startled by the amount of concern being caused by the new TSA safety procedures.  I don't think that either turning me into c- grade porn or having a bored tsa guy pat me very thoroughly will make me any safer... but at the same time, I'm startled and a little annoyed by the fact that this issue has gotten far more coverage than many of the ( Read more... )

On a different tangent, this over-obsession with airport security is a sham. What reason do we have to think "the terrorists" will try something with airplanes again? What are we doing to actually deal with the root issues, instead of running around chicken-littleing about symptoms 10 years old? I'm assuming you've seen the recent analyses about the motivations for suicide bombing being more likely foreign occupation than religious fervor, so perhaps we should take that as a cue and start, oh, I don't know, examining our foreign policy practices?

Ayup. Nationalism, produced in response to imperialism of one flavor or another, has produced most of the world's terrorism... that terror may be cloaked in the language of religion, but religion isn't a cause, merely the structure that guides action in response to the underlying cause... absent religion, nationalist outrage would find another outlet.

I've flown all of 2-3 trips in my life and I find myself understanding both ways...nobody wants to get groped as a prerequisite for necessary travel, but on the other hand nobody wants to get blown-up, shot, or die in a crash either. :/

EDIT cuz I am communication-impaired lately: Point being, it's all relative, and the stuff that's in your face (or your groin) is definitely going to rate a greater outrage.

But I wanted to say, I'm really glad to see all your posts lately, I miss talking to you and i find myself hearing your voice in my head when I read your posts, it makes me feel better. :)

I linked to this when it first came out over a year ago but I'll post it here again for your benefit: http://www.hlswatch.com/2009/10/15/

It's interesting to think that even law enforcement personnel think that these violations of privacy don't actually make us any safer - they just make the passengers watching you get frisked feel safer.
