Review: A Thousand Suns by Linkin Park

Linkin Park has always been somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine. I know technically, they're classified as hard rock or even nu-metal. But really, I think of them as pop metal. True metalheads would probably laugh at us for listening, then go back to headbanging to their Slayer or whatever... But hell, they write catchy songs and I dig 'em ( Read more... )

Ouch - 2 of 5. I haven't had a chance to listen to this one yet, but should. I also love Linkin Park.

Well actually I have listened to Catalyst but agree it is something that grows on you.

PS - Nice to see more posting by you on LJ! :)

They have the whole thing streaming on their MySpace page at the moment, which is nice. :) But yeah... I was really, really hoping that I would enjoy it a lot more than I did. I love Hybrid Theory and Meteora, and songs like Blackout show that they're still capable of producing totally kickass tunes... But their latest albums just get dragged down by all this soft, emo junk. :(

I'm hoping to post on LJ more and more. :) It's not like things aren't happening!

Thanks for the review. Patrick has been foaming at the mouth to get the new CD. I love Linkin Park too, but I agree that it sucks when you only like a few songs on the album.

Yeah, maybe it will grow on me... But that's what I thought about Minutes to Midnight, too. The conastant filler songs were a BIG disappointment, I gotta admit. Those tracks should be free on Amazon and iTunes.

If you have a MySpace account, Linkin Park is streaming the whole album from their profile. It's grown on me a little bit since I posted this review, but it's still frustrating... There are two pretty darn good songs on the album, so I know they're still capable of writing kickass music! But they seem content to just go off in every direction, just to see if something sticks.
