Previous Chapter A week and a half later, Scotty had to admit the wooing was going according to plan. Kevin was finding reasons to drop by Nora’s every other day on his way to and from work - conveniently timed around Scotty’s work schedule. There was always a perfectly reasonable explanation for going out of his way so often, such as bringing something for Nora to sign. And then there were the additional, as-long-as-he-was-going-there-anyway reasons. Sometimes he had coffee for Scotty, sometimes leftovers from his business lunch, sometimes he just wanted to say hi, sometimes he saw an article in the morning paper he thought Scotty would be interested in. Anything he could think of that would justify spending even a few minutes together.
Nora was happy to see they were getting along again, and because they actually were managing to keep things secret, that was all she knew. But as soon as Nora left the room, they’d start moving closer. Within only a few minutes, they’d be standing right next to each other, staring into each other’s eyes, smiling widely. That day, Scotty had his hand resting on the island counter; Kevin took things one step further, reaching out and tracing his fingers gently along the back of Scotty’s hand.
“Are you busy this weekend?” Kevin asked.
Scotty shook his head flirtatiously. “I’m all yours.”
“Dinner?”
Scotty raised his eyebrows and smiled. “Are you asking me out on a date?”
“Sure sounds like it.”
Scotty chuckled. “I think that can be arranged.”
Kevin grinned, leaning even further in as he angled towards Scotty’s mouth. Scotty tilted his upper body backwards.
“I don’t kiss on the first date,” he lied. “And I definitely don’t kiss before it.”
Kevin sighed loudly, turning away and resting his elbows on the counter. “You’re killing me,” he complained without any real annoyance.
Scotty snickered, facing the counter and reaching out to open the container of berries Kevin picked up from the farmers’ market that day.
“You’re really good at this wooing thing,” Scotty observed, flirtatious tone dropped for more casual conversation.
“I am,” Kevin agreed. “You better step up your game.”
Scotty tilted his head back, laughing.

The day of their dinner, Kevin felt extremely nervous. He didn’t remember the last time he wanted a date to be successful this badly. And it was crazy, because he had been out to eat with Scotty more times than he could even count. But now the rules had changed completely, and he just had to hope he could make it through the night. All he was hoping for was some time together, a little flirting, maybe a brief chance to talk about what they ultimately wanted from this. He wasn’t even hoping for a kiss - or anything else. Truthfully, he didn’t really want anything to happen. He may be tempted sometimes during his frequent visits, and he was obviously attracted to Scotty. But he knew they were right to wait. That it was better to make sure they were ready rather than rush into anything and ruin it all.
Plus, a tiny part of him still felt a little weirded out by it. That part usually stayed pretty quiet when he was around Scotty, but it reared back up again when Kevin was alone.
He pushed all such thoughts out of his mind, however, as he walked into Nora’s house that evening. He walked quickly through the kitchen and headed for the stairs, hoping he wouldn’t run into anyone who would ask too many questions.
No such luck, as he nearly collided with Nora as she came out of the office.
“You look nice!” Nora said.
“What?!” Kevin replied, feeling slightly panicky. “No, I don’t.”
Nora rolled her eyes, reaching out and straightening his lapel. “Yes, you do. Is that a new suit?”
“I just…don’t wear it that often.”
“Why not? You look so handsome.”
“Mom.”
“Do you have a date tonight?”
“No!” Kevin paused, closing his eyes as he inhaled quickly. “Just dinner with Scotty.”
“Oh. Have fun,” Nora said, patting his chest and walking past him into the kitchen.
Kevin exhaled, trying to slow his heartbeat. He shook his head at his inability to have a simple conversation with his mother. At least no one else had heard them.
“That was smooth,” a voice interrupted his thoughts.
Kevin opened his eyes, turning towards the stairs quickly. Scotty was halfway up the stairs, looking down at him. Kevin smiled.
“You heard that, huh?”
“Unfortunately for you,” Scotty said, laughing as he continued down.
Kevin walked closer to the foot of the stairs, and Scotty stopped again two steps up, smiling down at him as he leaned on the railing.
“Are you ready to go?” Kevin asked softly, eyes twinkling.
“Yes, I am,” Scotty said. As he spoke, he reached out, tweaking the knot of Kevin’s tie. “Your mom was right,” he added.
“About what?”
Scotty started moving again, stepping off the stairs and barely brushing against Kevin as he walked past him. “You look very handsome.”

They ended up at Kevin’s loft after dinner. They sat on the floor in front of the couch, a pint of ice cream in between them, talking quietly as they ate dessert.
“Tell me something,” Scotty asked.
“What?”
Scotty shrugged. “This is when most people, if they were wooing someone, would try to get to know each other. But we already know a ridiculous amount of information about each other. So, tell me something I don’t know about you.”
“The word woo cracks me up.”
“Kevin.”
“Well, honestly, it used to. Now it turns me on like you wouldn’t even believe.”
“Kevin.”
Kevin chuckled to himself, then turned serious. “OK. Something you don’t know.” He was quiet for a few moments, thinking. “The first person I slept with was a girl. I was, uh, 16 years old.”
“What was her name?”
“Sara Gimble.”
“You went to school with her?”
“Nope,” Kevin said, shaking his head as he took a bite of ice cream. “Her family had a cabin near ours up at Ojai. We did it in the tree house.”
Scotty smiled. “How was it? Did the earth move?”
Kevin snorted. “Nowhere close. I managed to, you know, get the job done. But mostly because I was thinking about Shaun Cassidy the entire time.”
Scotty laughed, and Kevin smirked.
“The next summer, I lured Tucker Booth into that tree house. Things went a lot better that time.”
“I think I hate him.”
“No reason to,” Kevin informed him. “A lot better still doesn’t mean good.”
“Ah, first-time sex. I’d like to see that tree house some time.”
Kevin shook his head. “Sadly, not possible. We sold the cabin.”
“Too bad,” Scotty said sincerely.
Kevin flashed a smile at Scotty and nodded in agreement. And then he looked away again, focusing on the ice cream. Since Kevin was distracted, Scotty took advantage of the moment. He paused briefly, then stretched his arms out above him with a fake yawn. He twisted his arm around, eventually bringing it back down to rest on the couch cushions behind Kevin.
Kevin looked up at him then, amused at Scotty’s actions. “Did you really just use the fake-yawn trick?”
Scotty smirked at him but didn’t answer. Kevin simply shook his head. Scotty then casually completed the move, lowering his fingers to rub Kevin’s shoulder softly. Kevin closed his eyes briefly, opening them again to stare at Scotty with a soft smile.
“Your turn. Something I don’t know about you.”
Scotty nodded as he thought. He took another bite of ice cream. Finally, he said, “I have a criminal record.”
Kevin shook his head. “Nope. I know that. I did a background check on you when I first learned your name.”
Scotty stared at him incredulously, and Kevin gave him a sheepish shrug.
“Wow,” Scotty said, shaking his head.
“Vagrancy and sleeping in your car, huh?”
Scotty burst into laughter.

It soon became apparent that they were going through stages of intimacy and affection. The tension would build until they finally crossed some line, and then they would be stuck at that level for some length of time. First, it was holding hands. And then, after Scotty’s yawn move, it became hugs and arms around shoulders and full body contact.
It was a few days after their first real dinner date. Scotty was over at Kevin’s, and they were just enjoying each other’s company. Kevin was stretched out on the couch, and Scotty sat in between his legs, leaning against Kevin with his back to Kevin’s chest. Kevin’s arms were wrapped around Scotty’s torso, and their hands were intertwined. Scotty tried to ignore the jolts of arousal that went through him every time Kevin spoke, his voice deep and low in Scotty’s ear. And they both tried desperately to ignore that Kevin clearly was finding their current position comfortably pleasant as well, his half-hard cock pushing slightly against Scotty’s lower back. Scotty shifted, “unintentionally” rubbing against Kevin, and Kevin exhaled shakily. Scotty smiled.
“What are you doing this weekend?” Scotty asked quietly.
“Whatever you want,” Kevin replied.
“Good answer,” Scotty said with a chuckle. “My internship finally ends and my official job as sous chef begins on Friday. I thought we could celebrate.”
“Absolutely we should,” Kevin agreed.
“There’s more.”
“What?”
“Ah, my dad’s coming into town this weekend. I’d like - I’d like you two to meet.”
Kevin was silent for a moment, and Scotty felt strangely nervous.
“Meeting the in-laws already,” Kevin joked.
“I live with your mother,” Scotty reminded him.
“No, I know. I just…make really bad first impressions. And I want your dad to like me.”
Scotty smiled softly. “I’m sure he will. And besides, we’re still keeping this a secret, remember? All he’ll know is you’re my ex-half-brother.”
“Good point,” Kevin said. “And of course I’ll meet him.”
“Thank you,” Scotty replied, turning his head to the side. He nuzzled against Kevin's jaw lightly, closing his eyes as he moaned quietly. Kevin’s arms around him just barely tightened.
