Recently, during a conversation I was having with my 14-year-old step-daughter, the subject of witches and witchcraft came up.  Since she knows that she can talk to me about anything and I'll try and help her learn the answer to any question she has, she asked me to help her learn witchcraft.  Now I'm aware of the ramifications of such a request,  ( Read more... )

I'm not sure to be honest. How do you think her mother and father would take to your helping her with this? Honestly it’s not a bad thing to study. Legally, teaching a minor without the premission of the parents, no matter the religion, could land the person in jail or the courts could fine them. The US courts consider it interference with the upbringing of the child. However, I can point her in the right direction and answer any questions as I learned today. The Witches' Voice has an article on the teaching of minors.

Thanks for the suggestions. I might have to see what I can find for her.

I would start small, and start basic. Fostering an appreciation of nature is harmless to any belief, and will help ground her for any studies she may take up later, with or without your help. :) It's probably the most neutral position to take too, and will help ease everyone into whichever path she chooses for herself.

I like this approach because what makes me hesitate to teach her is that she mentioned wanting to do spells specifically when we were speaking and little else. I know from personal experience that she can learn all about it from the internet, however I would rather she have that foundation of understanding first, and not dive into as I did and learn the hard way what can go wrong.
