So I bought a new TV last night - 40" Samsung 1080p Series 5 from Best Buy. I bought it at 8pm. I got it home and out of the box and there's a crack in the screen. Best Buy won't take it back. As a matter if fact they claim I broke it. Samsung won't take it back because it's physical damage. I got it for $900. To replace the glass alone it would ( Read more... )

Tell Best Buy that if they won't take it back you'll report the situation to the attorney general. If they still won't take it back you can report them to Cuomo and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

Call Best Buy's head office, make sure you have your receipt and explain the situation to their customer complaints department.

Remember to be calm and collected, don't let them brush you off.

I work with people who handle the customer service department at Australia's Toys R Us HQ.

Agreed with the two above posts. Physical damage like that cannot be seen inside the box, so therefore, the burden of proof should be on them.

Call up Best Buy and do NOT get off the phone until you have the answer you need and the name and number of the person that cleared it. Have them CALL the store for you to ensure it's all cleared up. And if that fails, call up the BBB and rain some hell down on them. (Don't forget the good people of Channel 4, too!)

Did you buy it on a credit card? If so, the credit card company will back up your purchase as well.

This is yet another reason why I refuse to shop Best Buy anymore. After they refused to take a coupon on a product that wasn't explicitly excluded on the back, as well as the countless problems I've had getting my iPod repaired through them, I will never do business with them again.
