Meme (Name Three Books ...)

Nicked this from amanuensis1; I present my own "Name Three Books ..."

That Marked Your Childhood:
  1. La Bella y la Bestia, Disney Storybooks. I learned to read before I ever went to school, from Sesame Street, which taught me the alphabet, and my Mum, who read me this book, tracing the words with her finger tip; one day the marks on the page became letters, became words, and I've been steadily devouring books ever since.
  2. The Book of Virtues, edited by William J. Bennet. I don't know what to say about this book except that it remains one I turn to, for entertainment, for inspiration, for company, and for comfort, to this day.
  3. The Witches, by Roald Dahl. Funny, in a gallows humor way that is very child-like, but not often found in children's books.

That Marked Your Teenage-hood:
  1. What Happened to Lani Garver, by Carol Plum-Ucci. Makes you ask yourself "who am I?" and answer honestly; oddly don't care for the author's other books.
  2. Clueless in the Kitchen, a Cookbook for Teens, by Evelyn Raab. There's nothing quite like enjoying food you've made yourself, on the stove.
  3. Bruce Lee: words from a master, edited by John R. Little. Yes, Bruce Lee, the martial artist; his words, his beliefs, gave me this great focus. I felt encouraged by these ideas, like the man himself had spoken to me; I try to live up to that feeling every day.

Favorites:
  1. Sunshine, by Robin McKinley. My first love was the Beast; this is just the great adult version
  2. Babyji, by Abha Dawesar. This book is the farthest from my experiences, but the closest to my own logic and desires.
  3. To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. I don't think I've ever read another single book that told so many stories.

That You Can Read Over and Over (Without Getting Sick of Them):
  1. The Hobbit, by J. R. R. Tolkien. Tried and true; I read this whenever I had to go to the hospital with my Mum.
  2. The Raven Ring, by Patricia C. Wrede. I love these 3-in-1 fantasy/mystery/romance books.
  3. Mossflower, by Brian Jacques. Absolutely, hands down, my favorite Redwall book.

That You've Read (Are Reading) Recently:
  1. Un Lun Dun, by China Mieville. I've been meaning to read his books since forever, but never felt called by one until now; may move into my Favorites listing, but its too soon to tell.
  2. Bleach, Vol. 21: Be My Family or Not, by Tite Kubo. I've been ahead of the release schedule thanks to my Spanish scanlations, but I'd lost track from about this volume on.
  3. The Nine Tailors, by Dorothy L. Sayers. Finally purchased this one today; I've read about the first 30 pages on previous visits to the book store, though.

That You Shall Read Soon:
  1. Empire of Ivory, by Naomi Novik. Read the first 3 during my summer hols, and have been getting more and more impatient; is it just me, or is this a slash "Beauty & the Beast"???
  2. Persuasion, by Jane Austen. I bought a copy ages ago, but school reading has slowed up my private intake.
  3. The Golden Compass: His Dark Materials I, by Philip Pullman. I must get to this one before the movie comes out; if they screw that up though, I may finally go through with that plan for strategic homicide.

One Special Fetish Book, Which You Would Keep With You All the Time:
  1. Beauty, by Robin McKinley. I stole my library's copy when I found it there ages ago; it is currently in my backpack, once again. Not the best version McKinley wrote, but the lightest, and therefore most portable.
