May 07, 2007 16:02

Ugh, I've been neglecting my poor little graphics comm... Stupid SATs and APs! The month of May is just horrid--I can't wait for the summer already! Anyway, this tutorial was requested by
wolf_crossbreed. The icon placed Third at
naruto_rewards Week 14.

Level: Easy
Program; Adobe Photoshop 7.0

Go from this to this:

This tutorial works with any darker-colored base. Light pinks and yellows might not look as good.

1. Crop this picture at 96x96 px so the focus is on the Yondaime.

You should see something like this:

2. Duplicate the layer (CTRL A>>CTRL C>>CTRL V) and sharpen it by going to FILTER>>SHARPEN>>SHARPEN. Set this layer to 75% opacity.

You should see something like this:

3. Flip the image (because I'm weird) by going to IMAGE>>ROTATE CANVAS>>FLIP CANVAS HORIZONTAL.

You should see something like this:

4. Create a new layer and fill it with #421515. Set this layer to HUE at 70% opacity.

You should see something like this:

5. Open this texture (
impartiality) and paste it onto the icon (CTRL A>>CTRL C>>CTRL V). Set this layer to SCREEN at 100% opacity.

You should see something like this:

6. Create a new layer. Select the brush Oil Pastel Large and change the size to 30 pt. Then draw a splotchy line in #FFFFFF on the side so that it connects with the Yondaime's robe. Change the opacity to 50%.

You should see something like this:

7. Text Time: Type in 'H O K A G E' in 8 pt Castellar, #421515. Place this layer so that it's resting on top of the line we just made. Set this layer to 60% opacity.

You should see something like this:

8. Create a new layer. Use this tiny text brush by me in #421515 and place it under the text.

You should see something like this:

9. Merge all the layers: CTRL+SHIFT+E. Then open a new 100x100 px document. Paste on your original icon (CTRL A>>CTRL C>>CTRL V) and then use this dotted border brush by me in #421515. Viola! All done.

Your finished product should look like this:
