Go from
this to this:
This picture works well with practically any base, so no worries on image choice!
01. Crop
this picture of Tomoyo at 94x94 pixels so that there's a lot of room towards the bottom.
You should see something like this:
02. Duplicate the layer (CTRL A>>CTRL C>>CTRL V) and sharpen it (FILTER>>SHARPEN>>SHARPEN). I set this new sharpened layer to 40% opacity but you should be shifted to whatever opacity looks best.
You should see something like this:
03. Duplicate the layer again (CTRL A>>CTRL V>>CTRL V) and go to (FILTER>>BLUR>>GAUSSIAN BLUR). Set this layer to OVERLAY at 75% opacity, or whatever percent your image looks the clearest in. Now merge all the layers by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+E.
You should see something like this:
04. Click the Rectangular Marquee Tool and drag it over the section that contains Tomoyo's face (
SEE HERE). Copy this selection (CTRL C). Now flip the layer horizontally by going to IMAGE>>ROTATE CANVAS>>FLIP CANVAS HORIZONTALLY and paste on your previously copied layer (CTRL V). Drag it to the bottom of the canvas and then flip your canvas back to the original position IMAGE>>ROTATE CANVAS>>FLIP CANVAS HORIZONTALLY.
You should see something like this:
05. Select the Rectangle Tool and create a small rectangle on the side of the top image, slightly overlapping the top of the image on the bottom, in #F5E6FE.
You should see something like this:
06. Text time: I typed in "Enlighten" in 18 pt Carpenter ICG, STRONG, and #8B64AD (it might slightly overlap the rectangle--that's OK). Then I changed blending options so that there was a 2 pt stroke around the text in #F3E6FE. Then I typed in "tomoyo daidouji" in 6 pt Castellar, STRONG, and #8B64AD.
You should see something like this:
07. Create a new layer and use
this dotted text brush by me below the text in #8B64AD.
You should see something like this:
08. Open
this light texture by Ianthinae and paste it onto your canvas (CTRL A>>CTRL C>>CTRL V). Set this layer to SCREEN 100%. Because there are several light dots covering Tomoyo's face now, I took an eraser brush and erased them away.
You should see something like this:
09. Merge all the layers again (CTRL+SHIFT+E) and open a new 100x100 blank document. Copy the icon and paste it onto the new document (CTRL A>>CTRL C>>CTRL V). Then use
this dotted border brush by me in #8B64AD. Save, and your icon is done!
Your finished product should look something like this:
