Nightwish at the Masquerade May 14th, 2009

I decided to write down my experience on my first time going to a gig and seeing Nightwish live. From the moment I left from Miami, Florida to the moment I left Atlanta, Georgia. I arrived yesterday (Saturday) from the trip but was to tired and lazy to write anything down, so here it for anyone who wants to read it.

From Miami to Tampa
Wednesday May 13th, 2009
My mother and I were to be at the train station at 11:00 am. I woke up at 9:30 am. I had gone to sleep rather late; it was past 4 am. I had been packing everything I thought important to take;

• two medium Ziploc bags with makeup
• one extra pair of jeans plus four extra tops - I still hadn’t decide what I was going to wear for the gig-
• My hair iron
• Underwear obviously
• A notebook
• My shitty camera and its charger
• My contacts
• Nail polisher
• Flip flops (I was wearing black and white converse)
• A sweater
• Pair of sunglasses
• My Pjs
In the morning I just had to put everything in the purses that I was taking; two purses, one bigger than the other one, plus my mom had her big purse as well. They were packed to maximum. We got to the train station a little pass 11 but we didn’t board the train until 11:30 at least. The train started moving at 11:50 exactly just how it said on the ticket. I must say the train ride was such a boring experience, it was slow and would not only stop at several stations but also it would randomly stop and then after 3 minutes start again. It was a 6 hour ride, I slept, listen to my mp3, and looked out the window to a boring view, the only thing I found kind of interesting was the Orange farm we passed by. We arrived in Tampa very hungry; my brother then took us to Whataburger. As we were inside eating the sky became gray the wind started to blow stronger and by the time we got in the car it started to pour. We got to his Efficiency and around 9 mp. Went to Wal-Mart to buy some necessary stuff, we went to sleep ready for the road trip that awaited us tomorrow; we are to leave at 11 am we want to get there before 7 pm.

On our way to Atlanta from Tampa
Thursday May 14th, 2009
We left at 11:30 am but didn’t get on the freeway until 12:15 pm. Between having to go to the bank, put gas in the car, and going back to car rental place to let them know they had given us the car with a small crack on the windshield - so they wouldn’t blame it on us- Again we were suppose to have left at 11 am. At 12:21 pm there was a traffic jam; we thought it was due to the construction that was going on but it was due to a car that broke down, a jaguar by the way. I feel we are kind of late but I can’t really tell just yet.
Is 4:27 pm we are already in Georgia and we are leaving from our first stop; I had to do both # 1 & 2 and my mom had a really bad headache so we made a quick stop. She bought Tylenol extra strength and a ice cream sandwich, I bought a bag of sunchips - they didn’t have the blue bag so I bought the cheese one- for later, my brother bought two muffins and put some gas in the car, and we were on our way again. After that we didn’t make another stop until we got the Masquerade.

The Masquerade
We got to the Masquerade a little after 7 pm thanks to the traffic jam a few blocks away. There was quite a line already, we got out of the car said bye to my mom and went to the line. Before the line started moving we looked back and it had gotten I think more than twice as big as it was before =). When we started moving we were separated into three lines, one for the people who had tickets or maybe just those who had bought it in TicketMaster, another line that said Call list if I’m not mistaking, and the other one was to buy the tickets. Once we were in I went straight to the right side, I had an ok view of the stage and mostly where Anette would be standing. But as more people came, me being somewhat short (5’3”) was lucky enough to get three tall guys right in front of me. My brother being the tall one was in charge of taking pictures.
There was a couple with their kid next too me, it was the kid’s first show, it appears he was discontent when he couldn’t see the band and of how hot it was in there, they left after Nightwish had played a few songs, it gave me a chance to move closer. When Volbeat was playing a big group of girls and a few guys got in front of me and started jumping, stepping on my foot and pushing me with their elbows, eventually they left =D, very rude in my opinion. I also got hit in the head once but the guy actually said sorry so it’s ok.

Volbeat was ok; I wouldn’t buy any of their CDs though, they are just not the type of music I like.On their last song they asked for two girls and two guys from the audience to join them on stage. They seem like very nice guys. Once Nightwish came on stage and I saw Marco first and then Anette, a huge grin was drawn on my face. It felt surreal at least for me it did. I was looking at them but it felt as if I was looking at them through a screen, like I couldn’t believe I was finally there. I was so happy I didn’t want it to end. My hunger and tiredness left me when they came on stage; I forgot I was dying to go pee. I’m not sure in what line I was standing but I would guess between 5 and 7, although during the whole show people kept leaving so I was able to move closer to the front. I was able to see Anette, Marco and Emppu the most, I would sometimes get lucky and see Tuomas between some heads and arms. Jukka I saw about three times not counting when they all got together to bow and say goodbye.
The band was great, Anette sounded amazing, they all looked great too. and Marco made some funny comments as well, he said something in Finnish but I can't remember the word; something about sperm i think lol. When they played Romanticide and Escapist, a lot of people didn't know the songs so there weren't that many singing along. I hadn't like how Anette sang Ghost Love Score but I had always stoped watching the video after a few minutes, but after hearing her sing the whole song, I have to say I really like her take on it. Although I wasn’t able to really see pass the waist down =p I was able to see what Anette was wearing when I looked at the camera in front of me while the guy was taking a picture lol.She was wearing a very pretty black dress, she's been wearing a lot of black dresses lately. And I don't know if I saw right but I think Tuomas had some dreads tied on the back.

The After Math
When they finished my brother rushed out of there, he was tired, grumpy, and hungry and so we left. When I was in the car I shed some tears since I was just overwhelm with a bunch of emotions and tired haha. I was more than happy to finally see them, I was sad that they aren’t coming back in a long while- although not sad enough to cry-, I was tired, hungry, thirsty, my back hurt, and the urge to pee came back, so all those things together made me shed a couple of tears. I actually felt like crying when I saw them I won’t lie but I didn’t, I just smiled all the time. At that moment I understood why some fans cry when they see their favorite artist or when they hear their favorite song being played. And I thought I would never go through that, me? cry? Noooo sir. I was wrong lol.
My first time in a gig and I had fun and I’m more than pleased. I learned not to play it save and to get my ass there earlier so that I can get a better spot and see them better. I will be seeing them again whenever they come back to the States but only if they come to Florida, my brother isn’t driving out of State again unless he has money enough to fly. My brother who was not very into taking me to the show has admitted that they are quite good and liked them as well =D. Goodness even my mom likes them but she wouldn’t want to be in there… maybe next time I’ll convince her and she can stand with the rest of the parents while I go to the front.

Things to Complain about
• My Camera; it didn’t get good focus, so there are a lot of pictures out of focus and dark since it was taking aim at the hands in front and not the stage. And the battery didn’t last very long, I need a new camera.
• My cell for dying
• My shortness =(
• HOW HOT IT WAS
Other than that I really can’t complain although my shortness wouldn’t have been a big deal if the stage had been a little higher.
Oh and this isn’t really a complain but when they were playing GLS, two guys shorter than me got in front of me and I heard one say “I think that is almost finished” (They were talking in Spanish), and the one in front of me wouldn’t stop moving from side to side trying to see, it was funny because he was doing it so quickly and wouldn’t stop that I just wanted to grab him by the shoulders and hold him still lol.
