Academy, wtf?

So, we all knew Daniel Day-Lewis and Javier Bardem were going to win their respective Oscars, I just feel it for Johnny Depp (who was awesome in Sweeney Todd, though I would have been really surprised if he won this year) and Viggo Mortesen (who I've heard was totally awesome in "Eastern Promises") , oh well, I didn't see their respective movies, ( Read more... )

Well, with the little hype Persepolis got most of the Academy probably hadn't seen it. That should explain a lot for most of the awards they gave out, anyway.

I haven't seen any of the movies that have been nomenate (nomeened?) XD except for Ratatouille... But hell, I am eager to see Sweeney Todd!!!!!

And I have never heard of Persepolis? You seem to have found it really good? :) Should I try to see it?

Sweeney is spectacular. That's the word. It's not my favourite Tim Burton movie, but Johny's awesome, and so is Alan Rickman *drool* though he had little screen time :P. Yes, it's spectacular, and gory, and bloody ^^
You should see Persepolis, I don't know if they translated it to German (a bit silly, because the main character spends her teenhood trying to understand Germans :P) And I recomend you to try and see it, I don't know why but I think you would like it ;)

By the way, about your icon. Two months ago, when I got cable tv for the first time, I was zapping throughout the new 50 channels, when I just screamed: hey, look, it's the guy from the icon of wicked_warrior! What is this? Hum... Dr. House? Seems nice...

I haven't missed an episode since! XD

Even if I have an House icon, I ahevn't seen that much of the series. I just happen to love Hugh Laurie and what I've seen so far of his character, Dr.House.
And somehow reminds me of my History of cinema teacher (House's personality, not in looks, pity XD) who I adore XD Here's the icon again :D
Speaking of it, I always wondered about your mushroom avatar :P

Clothing for the Elizabethan era? Totally stiff. That's the way it was and it's the way the clothing was supposed to be. A costume designer's job isn't to be 100% historically accurate, but to use history as a guideline and work from there to fit the film and the characters. If they were, than Sweeny Todd fucked up by having their costumes from four different decades.

I'm telling you, I'm a bit confused, because I liked both movies, but for different reasons that have nothing to do with costumes ( except Elisabeth's armor, that was sexy), but then I must second Twirlynoodle, it looked like theater costumes, not like clothing that the cast was adapted to wear. Alright, Elizabethan era, the costumes were supposed to be stiff, to keep the body in a shape according to a beauty canon, but still, I don't know how to put it in words. There's a Spanish movie ("Alatriste") of almost the same period where all the characters are part of their costumes, where they express their personality through them. They were believable. In "Elisabeth", though, they looked kind of artificial ( ... )

Me gustó mucho.
A mí él me encantó, qué fuerza, qué dinamismo, qué voz! (y qué pelo! XD).
