CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character’s name: Elphaba Thropp
Character’s canon: Gregory Maguire’s Wicked
What type of canon is your character from?: Book
Character’s LJ: ”wicked_west”
Brief history of your character: Elphaba Thropp was born the daughter of a preacher and his wife living in Munchkinland in Oz. Elphaba’s skin, unfortunately, was a delicate shade of green. Elphie attended Shiz Academy as a young woman. There, she began to notice the changes in the political climate of Oz. She tried helping the Animals, but could do little. Upon traveling to the city to appeal to the Wizard, she discovered he was the man behind the political changes and immediately went underground. Elphie tried to overthrow the current government to little success. During this time in her life, she also enjoyed a brief affair with previous schoolmate Fiyero. Unfortunately, he died at the hands of the Wizard’s men. Elphie then traveled to his family’s castle of Kiomo Ko in the Vinkus where she began to learn many of her small magic. This is where she found the Gimmerie, where she learned to fly on a broom, and where she bred the first winged monkeys.
Brief synopsis of your character’s personality: Elphaba is rather an enigma. She is sarcastic and taciturn around others. She is capable of loving deeply, and it’s best not to make her mad, as strange things happen if you do. However, she usually keeps to herself. She has a strong ideal of equality to all creatures, Animal and human alike. Elphie has always tried to feel closer to her father. He took a favoritism to her younger sister, Nessa Rose instead. He even gave Nessa some beautiful silver shoes; shoes that Elphaba has wanted ever since her sister died. She tried hard to please her father, but somehow, she never could. Finally, Elphie shies away from water. She never touches it, and should there be rain or snow, she makes sure every single part of her is covered in waterproof fabric.
What is your character’s sexual orientation?: Heterosexual

GAME SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Is your character alive or dead at the point of entry to the game?:
Character is in the process of dying
What skills does your character have?:
She can fly and she can somewhat read the Grimmerie. These will not help her in the game, however. Elphie does have excellent research skills, and determination for bringing down that which is unfair in her eyes.

“An instant of sharp pain before the numbness. The world was floods above and fire below.” (Maguire) She saw the faces of her family and her friends as the water sloshed over her, burned her, melted her. She reached out to touch the faces: Frex her father whom she tried to please. Nessa her frail sister, the woman she doted on. Doctor Dillamond the wise Goat who taught her and who died needlessly in the Wizard’s rule. The Wizard himself. Fiyero... oh Fiyero. How she had loved him. How she wished Sarima would have accepted her apology and given her forgiveness for the death of Fiyero. Absolution that never came. Perhaps this burning water was her absolution, like the holy water from her father. The burning reached its height. Soon it’d be over and she’d be gone, a distant memory in the land of Oz...

Elphaba woke to the sun. Bright bright sun shining in her eyes. She looked around... this wasn’t the Vinkus. She appeared to be in the desert, but which desert. It didn’t look like any of the deserts in Oz. Was she in the afterlife? Well that would be a grand laugh wouldn’t it? After years of proclaiming atheism, Elphaba Thropp, daughter of Frex the minister, made it to The Afterlife. Well, it seemed time to explore this afterlife.

Elphie set off across the sands. She came to a road, but it looked like no road she had seen before. In Oz, the roads were brick or cobblestone. This was a dusty grey that may have been black once before the sun had faded it. After carefully studying it, she stepped out and walked along it. The sun beat down on her black outfit. Uncomfortable to say the least. Wasn’t the afterlife supposed to be paradise? No one had told her about the hellish desert.

She walked on hoping to see some other form. Perhaps Nessa, or Doctor Dillamond, or dare she hope, Fiyero. Hours and hours she walked without seeing anyone. Suddenly, way in the distance, a building arose on the horizon. The road led straight towards it, so, hot, cranky, and muttering something about a broom, she continued on her miserable way. As she got closer, she realized the building was in shambles. There was nothing there to help her. But, a quick nap in the shade would do her some good before she went out in search of Fiyero.

She creakily walked up the steps and through the doors. The cool air was so welcome that Elphie didn’t immediately register what she was seeing. As her eyes adjusted to the slightly dimmer light, she froze. This was not the building she had walked in on. It was a wreck... not some ornate palace. She had never seen a building like this before. Glinda never lived somewhere like this... and the Wizard’s palace surely was not this grand.

She turned to walk straight out the door when someone behind her coughed. She looked around. At a desk stood a man. “Welcome Miss Thropp. We’ve been expecting you?”

“Oh so this is the afterlife!” exclaimed Elphie. “Good, I trust you can tell me where my sister is.”

“The afterlife? Not at all. This is the Hotel California. We have a room ready for you,” he said, holding up a key. “Please sign here.”

Warily, Elphaba inched forward. “If this isn’t the afterlife, how did I come to be here. That brat girl dumped water on my head. I can’t be alive still. This is a trick of the Wizard. You are his servant. How did he come by this magic?”

“Please sign the book ma’am” intoned the man.

Elphie glanced at the book and back up at the man. He was gone. “Hmphf. I’ll not settle for this. WIZARD! I AM DEAD! I WILL NOT PLAY YOUR GAMES ANYMORE! LET ME AT LEAST ENJOY MY DEATH!!” And with that, she turned around without picking up the key with the intention of wandering the desert for some other place.

-CHARACTER INFORMATION-
Name: The Wicked Witch of the West
Canon: The Wizard of Oz 1939 Movie
LJ: wicked_west
Character & Media Information: The Wicked Witch of the West is an evil figure in the Land of Oz. Sister to the recently deceased Wicked Witch of the East, little is known of her other than the fact that she is green. She flies around Oz on her broomstick. Sometimes she just appears places in a puff of fire and brimstone. When either of those methods won’t work, the Witch asks her flying monkeys to perform tasks for her. Based off the 1939 movie, she is green and melts when being splashed by water.
Scroll to 1939 movie
Character Perception: The Witch is clearly evil and power hungry. She also seems to have tunnel vision. When Dorothy’s house kills her sister, the WWW seems less upset that her sister is dead and more focused on causing pain to whomever killed her. (Note how she asks “Who killed my sister?” in the movie). She clearly wants the powerful ruby slippers that were on her sisters feet and will stop at nothing to get them from Dorothy including killing her dog and her friends. Once set on those shoes, she seems to forgot about any other evil she may do in the world. She has enslaved the entirety of the Winkie country to do her bidding. She does seem somewhat nicer to her flying monkeys. She’s also green.
Timeline: Just after melting from Dorothy. She’ll wake up in the helicopter.
Ticket: We have information on how to get the shoes from the girl. Meet at the northernmost tower of your castle at 7.
Inventory: Nikko and a few other flying monkeys, a bag containing another dress, her broomstick, pointed hat, crystal ball, some poisons.
Additional Notes: Because the ticket asked to meet after Dorothy’s hour was up, the Witch has been liquidated. The assumption here is that the monkeys (who do have some intelligence) packed up her belongings and flew her to the tower.

Role Play Sample:
“You have one hour!” the Wicked Witch of the West yelled as she locked the farm girl inside the room. Now, how would she go about killing the girl without damaging the shoes. They were powerful, yes, but the spell that kept them on the girl’s feet was powerful magic too. Even someone with the Witch’s prowess would have trouble sidestepping the spell.

As she paced, Nikko hopped over with a scrap of paper in his hand. She took it and absentmindedly. She continued pacing, not bother to read it. It wasn’t until Nikko actually screeched at her that she looked down. “We have information on how to get the shoes from the girl. Meet us at the northernmost tower of your castle at 7.” it said. There was no signature. Nikko had been alive to give it to her, so it couldn’t be the Wizard. Who else was powerful enough to give her the shoes? Well, she wasn’t coming up with any ideas herself. If she had no ideas at the end of the hour, she’d just leave the girl and meet these people when it was time. Not that she liked working with others.

Suddenly there were noises. Peering out the door, she saw the three ragamuffins who traveled with the girl and that damnable dog. They had the girl with them. Incensed at the attempted escape, she ran for the hourglass and hurled it at the travelers. After chasing them through the castle, she cornered them intending to kill the scarecrow with fire. Unfortunately, the girl picked up a bucket that had been collecting rain water and hurled it at the witch. Oh the pain. “I’m MELTING I’M MELTING! OH WHAT A WORLD WHAT A WORLD!” The Witch Screamed as she vanished.

She woke up in a strange contraption making more noise than she’d ever heard before. “Where am I?” she asked. The man in front of her said nothing. Looking around she saw her broom, a few of her monkeys, and a sack. “Nikko? What’s happening?” In his way, he let her know that he had packed up her favored items and took them and her hat and broom (he had wrestled it away from the girl) to the tower. When the contraption landed, he and some of the other monkeys got on and found her already there.

“Well, that makes no sense, if I was liquidated” the Witch grumbled. Still, magic does what it does, and if this would help her get those shoes, than there wasn’t much else she could say.
