Yup, there are indeed milk banks for helping sick babies, babies of moms who are too sick or otherwise physically unable to nurse, babies who were adopted, etc.

If you ever ever ever have breastfeeding questions, need encouragement, etc, PLEASE let me know! Congratulations on your soon-to-be baby and your decision to nurse!

hey- bfing question...I'd be into this, but I'm only nursing Eli once a day now, so I'm not sure I could up my amount enough. (Eli would be only too happy to help me toward that goal, although I'm not sure the boobs could take it!) I know milk responds supply/demand, but after 2.5 years? Have any advice/info?

Have you pumped at all for Eli? If so, when was the last time? If you've had no experience with a pump at all, or not in a long time, it might be hard to produce for a pump, even if your supply was really good. A medical-grade pump (often for rent from local hospitals/LLL) could make some difference if you had a really good supply. If you can get your hands on one, I highly recommend the Medela Symphony. And the best thing you can do to boost your milk production beyond nursing more often/longer sessions would be drinking more water and eating a *lot* of oatmeal (cookies, granola, museli, instant, long-cook; all of it helps tremendously).

I wish I could do it myself, but it's been a year and 7 days since my little man self-weaned, 1 day after turning 2.5 as well as Obama's inaguration day, and therefore pretty unforgettable. I hate that I can't help in this way anymore but maybe I can inspire others like you who might be able to. Thank you for even considering and good luck if you decide you're able to go for it!
