Thoughts on Women's Steampunk fashions

I've been looking at lots of Steampunk costumes lately. In my mind there is a lot of wiggle room in what makes a costume steampunk. You hit on a pet peeve of mine. I adore steampunk, but the useless objects are annoying. If you're going to wear goggles, they need to be functional. If it has gears, it needs a reason. To me, the aesthetic of steampunk is fashion in function, with an historical feel, from victorian thru pre war. I also have a love for pulling historical-esque stuff into modern fashion, but that's not steampunk, unless it's a modern version.

This post comes on the heels of me spending all night thinking about my disaster of a wardrobe. While I'm not "into" steam punk, I sure do find it fabulous. It's another inspiration for me to get my wardrobe overhauled and allow myself to be a bit more fabulous.

Also, I think my personal steam punk style might be closest to the blue haired girl. And the lingerie and fishnet woman looks like this was her first time out and she didn't really "get it."

What delicious boots the girl with blue hair has! Me wants!

I want to go to one of the Toronto Steampunk meetups, but I'd be that loser in regular clothes. :P

You should "steal" Dustin's book of Unhallow Metropolis gaming book from him. Or look at it at his or tell him to bring it along with him next time he comes town to visit ya. There are some really fucking good pictures in there and they even have a lj group on here too. (Go to my profile) ITs all steampunk gaming and the pictures they have it dead on for the steampunk. Their website is called New Dark Age but I don't know the address of it.

There is a movie called "Resurrectionist" that the people from Unhallow Metropolis did. Its so worth checking out if you can find it. I hope that helps a little bit more.
