You may never feel the same sense of belonging there that you felt in Eddystone. I don't know what your new home looks like, but suburbs are generally inimical to idea of community; the absence of sidewalks and the large wooden fences that separate one house from another create a less than hospitable atmosphere.

I was just in Eddystone the other day and I realized that I was very lucky to grow up in a row home. It's the kind of place where your three best friends are all within walking distance. Just think -- in some places people probably need their parents to drive them to a friend's house. I think in a lot of ways that is one of the things that sets me apart from most of the people I have been around since college, and it's probably the reason I feel so at home in New York.

But you never know. Maybe your neighbors will be cool people. You should show up at their door with a fruitcake.
