it's a goldendoodle. We're hoping she ends up being a low shedder. My parents' (and formerly my) golden retriever at home sheds like a mother....and I didn't want that in an inside dog.

How's a dog ever supposed to get any respect with a name like Golden Doodle? Sounds like something scribbled on a napkin at McDonalds... and that's if I'm being nice. :) I can hear it now, "Rob, there is golden doodle on the carpet again, please grab the stain cleaner?" *hehehe*

If you got a boy I'd say name him Midas. Hmm. How about a play on not being a real golden retreiver, go with Pyrite or Pirate?

Petra will confuse people. :)

So very very cute. I kind of want a goldendoodle. But I don't think we can afford to get one. Let me know what you think of the breed. We maybe going dog shopping at the humane society after Christmas. Since a lot of people get pets for their kids as gifts. Then they realize how much work they are.

if you can't afford the initial cost of the dog, you won't fare too well with the upkeep costs either. Doggies are expensive. Granted, yes, pure-bred dogs and the like are more expensive up front than adopting from the humane society (ours is actually about 1/3 the price of buying it up in chicago cuz we're getting it from a breeder at home that charges less)....but the yearly cost of owning a dog is still pretty high.
Note: for people looking for a goldendoodle....I've done my research in all sorts of newspapers around Chicagoland, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois (southern), Quad cities, Iowa, Indiana....and buying such a breed in Chicagoland is a HUGE ripoff. You can easily get a puppy from a reputable person in Iowa or Southern Illinois for 500 bucks versus the 1200-2000 you have to pay up around Chicago.

I know how much up keep on a dog is both physically and financially. I have owned animals for years. There is also the fact that I can't see spending $500 from a breeder. When I can adopt a dog that needs a good home for about $100. A specially since around Christmas time I can get a pure bred for that price from the humane society. Since a lot of people buy dogs and don't follow their breeder contract and turn them back over to the breeder bacuase the can't handle the up keep of a dog. And I would rather take the money I save on the cost of buying a dog and put it toward pet insurance to make sure we can afford the proper care of said dog. It is more about knowing what is more scene for our family. There is nothing set in stone about getting a dog. It was just a thought. Since we do want a dog.

While I am happy for you that you got one of the girls of the litter, and will soon add to your family, your statement (an absolute) is flawed.

"EVERONE" is not guranteed to like puppy pictures.
I can guarantee this because I don't like them, and I still participate in the "EVERYONE" subclass.

Now, if say, Boo the cat was in some of these goldendoodle pictures, I might warm up to the snapshots.

ok, "everyone" means all dog lovers. It's too bad you don't like dogs....doggies love you much more than a cat ever will. Oh well. Sorry you got lumped into "everyone". Luckily for you, you can just ignore my journal posts with the hideous canine photos. :-)

Cute!!!

I always like naming pets after favorite fictional characters, or names I generally like that I wouldn't be allowed to bestow on a child (like Dagny, who is also a favorite character).
