Today has been...interesting. :D

So despite the fact that it's sunday, there was school today. Culture festival. All the kids and all the teachers went to hang out, make random things out of mizuhiki (long threads of paper, kinda like lanyerns you make as a kid, only cooler) and attend (or in my case do) a presentation. My presentation was on on America. And Germany. Both. At the same time. Because they are so similar. Like speaking the same language. Or maybe it's their geographical closeness. right. Anyways, the new Coordinator for International Relations (CIR) is from Germany, so we had to fit the two countries into one presentation. weee! But that wasn't even the awkward part of the day. to start from the beginning...

ok, so you know how some people re-wear pants? And, though I've only ever seen it on tv, sometimes yesterday's pantaloons come for the ride along with yesterday's pants and fall out someplace inappropriately public, causing socially embarassing situations? Well that didn't quite happen to me. But pretty close. Here's the story.

I've been swapping between the two jackets that I own every few days, (cause lets face it, I came from So Cal. We don't DO jackets, so my supply is limited), and i admit, i definately don't wash them every wear. They're jackets, right? They're not even touching me, just the other layers of shirts and long johns (stop laughing. It's cold!) that I pile on every day. But still, it came as a bit of a surprise when I sat down at my desk at work this morning and realized there was a lump in the sleeve of my jacket. I'm not even going to go into the fact that it took me the entire drive from my apartment to work, walking in and sitting down to figure out that there was a lump to begin with. Or maybe I just did. whatever. I poked at the lump experimentally, wondering what the hell it was and felt.......an underwire. My bra. In my sleeve. How? The world may never know.

I had this breif moment of indecision. What should I do? There was a bra in my sleeve. Take it out? In the middle of a middle school teacher's room FULL of teachers? Try to hide it in my desk? Then how would I get it back out later? Should I leave it and hope no one would notice? (I certainly hadn't). The morning meeting was supposed to start in two minutes, so I judged running back out to my car was a bad idea. Being late to the meeting would probably actually be a worse sin than pulling my black abnormally large (for Japan) bra out of my sleeve in the middle of the teacher's room. So I decided to wait till after the meeting to run to the car. It was a long 2 minutes waiting for the morning chime that would signal the start of the meeting. Especially because the chime never happened. It was one of those rare mornings where, inexplicably, there was no morning meeting and no one told me. So I bee-lined it to my car and proceeded to pull not just my bra out of my sleeve, but also - a sock. a sock. In my SLEEVE Again, I ask...How? I stashed both in my car and went back to work.

Other random weird things:
Some of my students asked me friday if my hair was natural. All I could think of replying was "what, do you think i do this on PURPOSE?"

And another group of girls keeps coming by and saying "You have such a small face!" (in Japanese) as though it's a compliment. I thought it was just them being silly, because we all know how strange middle school students can be, but then one of the PARENTS came up to me and said, "Ah yes! My daughter told me about you. Small face!"...First off...uh, no? Anyone seen these chipmunk cheeks recently? nothing small about them. Plus, small face. that has to be the weirdest complement ever. Though they do have these creepy silence of the lambs looking masks that women sometimes wear in the baths to keep their faces 'small.' I think I am begining to understand Japanese clothes fashion a tiny bit, but I will never understand the skin whitening or face smalling. (its a word because I say it is XD)

My caffine has run out and I only had 2 hrs sleep last night, so bedtime now. NITE! Miss you guys!
