I got more records than the KGB...vicariously_iMay 30 2008, 13:56:23 UTC
I've always figured most parents work as focus groups, administering "punishment" (reprimands)when their children do something contrary to their moral preferences, no matter the legality. Either that, or they don't give a shit at all.
Experience is still the best educator, unfortunately.

You're right, but I don't know if the fact of experience being the best educator is necessarily unfortunate. I just feel like parenting trends nowadays are far too idealistic. Do parents really think their kids aren't ever going to have sex? Do they think their kids are never going to experiment with drugs? I understand the concern for the child's well-being, but it seems to me like careful guidance and clear explanations of how the world works tend to be better tools for the child than simple commands ("DON'T DO DRUGS!!!!"). If a kid "experiences" sex because he's curious and goes into it knowing the facts and precautions, he's going to be way better off than the kid who does it out of clueless rebellion against his overprotective parents.
