I'll be honest. I don't know a thing about plaster. BUT I think this is the BEST idea ever, to keep a mold of your own mouth sitting next to you at your desk. I think I just fell in love with you all over again. Any chance of painting the mouth? I'm thinking tie dye or maybe several different patterns -- tartan here, checkerboard there, stripes over yonder?

Ha! I don't know about painting them... that might be a little weird. Or maybe making them fancy and whimsical would make it less weird? Less realistic so less gross? I don't know.

I am disappointed that part of the top of the model broke off when the dentist was trimming the edges for me. All the teeth/mouth parts are intact, though. I'm thinking of finding some way to fix it so it looks more "presentable", though.

It is also my not-so-secret dream to get a really detailed scan of my skull and get a plastic model made of it. When I win the lottery (or, you know, Survivor or something), that is something I will do with my winnings!

I am giddy just imagining the types of conversations you are going to inspire with your second mouth there at your desk. "What's that?" "That's my mouth. My OTHER mouth." Oh sweeeet.

Why stop at your skull? I mean, really, can't they do a full body skeleton? If you win the lottery or Survivor, I would think you could afford the best of the best.

True. I think I'd be satisfied with just my own skull, but I may as well go all the way and get a replica of MY OWN WHOLE SKELETON. Yes, indeed.

I have a set of those plaster impressions, too. My wife refers to them as my "false teeth."

I just keep mine padded in bubble wrap. :)

But keeping them padded in bubble wrap does not allow me to prominently display them!

That's why his are in bubble wrap. ;) His OTHER MOUTH creeps me out.

I'd paint a few coats of varnish or lacquer on, to get it good and sealed. And then just be careful with them, because even lacquered, plaster is brittle and crumbly.
