So I'm leaving in two hours to go to the Summer Welcome at Austin Peay State University, which appears to be where I'm going to school, mostly by default. Well, I'll stay at my uncle's house overnight, and then get up early and go to the Summer Welcome, because of course the best time to sit down with your faculty advisor and plan out your future ( Read more... )

Don't you wish you could just take all the classes you wanted to take and at the end of the four years they would just hand you a diploma that said "well-rounded citizen who can do a number of things pretty well?"

Cause I do.

That is exactly what I wish. And what is this nonsense about being restricted to below an 18-hour courseload? I wanted to take more than, like, five classes, WTF?

They let certain people take more than 18 hours. People, for example, like you and me. However, you are a freshman and should probably start out with 18 or less. I say this from experience. Don't worry, if at some point you want to overload, they'll let you.

Good. Is 18 too many to start with? I was thinking about picking up English 2030 (I get to skip 1010 and 1020, squee), because, come on, Traditions in World Literature! I was born for that class.

I wish I could bump up to 16 hours, I'm at 15 at the moment, but there don't seem to be any one credit classes... er, that aren't mandatory and that I'm not already taking, anyway. (Did I tell you I have mandatory Sociology 2030 at 8:00 a.m. three days a week? No? Expect to hear a lot of whining about that.)

I have nothing real to contribute with this comment other than I craked the hell up at 'Honk!' for some reason.

I LOVED this post. I can see you so clearly, screaming through Nashville with your parents, and I laughed at the image so much.

The very best of luck at Uni. You will do brilliantly, I'm sure. And I'm also sure your parents are proud as punch of you. I would be. Enjoy.

Oh. And keep posting. Please.

Thank you! In all actuality I'm a total chicken when it comes to driving, which is funny: I like doing adrenaline-pounding things, but only when I'm in control of my own body and only my own body. (Or a horse. Horses are cool.) I've never been one for bikes and other things like that. Honestly, my biggest fear driving is that I'll lock the keys in the car. (It's going to happen. I KNOW IT. I'm going to have to accost some stranger and use his cell phone and, knowing my luck, he won't even be tall, dark and handsome.)

You're going to make me blush and then I'm going to have to kill you. :D Honestly though, I think I'm at least going to have a very, very good time: I've been wandering around looking at my campus map and stuff and going, "It's like Hogwarts!" And it is. Why did no one tell me this?

*salutes* Yes ma'am!

Feh. Get your BS (or BA, whatever), then go to a place with linguistics and get your Master's. Surely this place will have ~something~ applicable. I'd insist you come to UB and matriculate, but who knows if we'll even be there.

Seriously, tho, good luck. I hate "Welcome" bullshit and I really, really hate being around conservative relatives.

Um.. Pink and green ~don't~ go together? Damn!

And it wasn't even, "Welcome to Austin Peay, you are here to learn and have fun!", it was, "Welcome to Austin Peay, you are here to GRADUATE AS SOON AS YOU CAN AND GET A FUCKING JOB YOU LOSERS! Honestly! I do all the work around here and this is the thanks I get? We'll kick you out if you don't get a move on. I can't believe you're such slacking losers!" And this was for the Scholarship luncheon, too. It was like the most aggressive parent in the world.

JFC. I wonder what they did for the 'normal' kids. :P

Most places of higher learning are more worried that you gain knowledge than that you gain a place of employment. Is this place a college or university?

Aww damn. Agaim with the people + the Nashville - the me. ah well, it happens. I think that since I am Lame-y McLame Pants in regards to getting myself to Knoxville you and Esther should visit me instead (unless you wanted to come one at a time which seems silly to me but hey). I will hopefully have Mondays off all summer, so... yeah. I can show you all there is to see in Nashville (e.g. malls, churches, and porn shops). Okay so there isn't really much to do here if you are lacking connections (as I am since I don't read the Scene).

This has been a wildly longer comment then I expected. I appologize for any distress caused by rambling and/or bad sentence structure.

Well, to be fair, it was a strictly business trip, and Clarksville is a good way outside Nashville. Also, the 'rents are a bit less than understanding when it comes to stopping by to spend an afternoon with friends. :( I would, however, love to visit you at some point-- do you get a fall break at Earlham, will you be coming home during it, and would it be possible for me to intrude then? I'd come over the summer, but there's the whole "job" thing to consider, and I already know I'm going to be working both weekdays and weekends, probably at something approaching full time. (Ooh! Porn shops! Exciting. Is Printer's Alley still the place with all the strip clubs?)

No distress caused, but thank you. :D
