Otakon 2009 report.
It's OVERRR~. 4 days spent in Baltimore hanging with friends and selling our wares takes a lot out of us, but we do have fun. I'm illustrating some of last weekends events in journal comic form, but they aren't ready yet so I'll just make a regular update for the time being.
On Thursday I got to the bus line at least 40 minutes earlier than I planned. It was already afternoon, and I was shockingly able to get lunch for once. gwingangel arrived soon after I was done eating. Then sw_inku showed up soon after wards, with Graham in tow.
Our bus was oversold, very oversold. But mostly because people were being jerks, and using extra seats as luggage storage. So we fit, but we were all spread out and communicated by text-o-phone. We got to Baltimore and took the Light Rail to our hotel, met up with myk_der_comiker
and his bro, and Jess, then went to the Convention Center and got on the line. It took about an hour of waiting, circling the building once. Also found widdledragon on the way. We had a group dinner and soon it was FRIDAY.
Oh, good lord it was nice to not be in a hotel 80 miles away for once. Sorry, Grammas house. You can't step to that convenience. Sales were good Saturday, saw seisama and her sis, Ruby, and other people I'm certain I'm forgetting. The day was drama free UNTIL OTAKON decided that things were too peaceful. They sent over one of their stooges with a message that our buttons were now contraband! We were in the middle of a sale when he interrupted it. The girl buying the button stood around awkwardly, then hurried off as though she were buying drugs and didn't want to do a nickel. All non-printed fan art was banned. But what was annoying was that the goon was just arbitrarily targeting tables and ignoring others. Despite that we had a nice dinner at The Cheesecake Factory.
On Saturday the contraband ban (contra-ban?) was lifted. For...SOME...REASON? WHATEVER! We got to sell buttons again, so all our work wasn't wasted after all. punctuates dragged me out to lunch at Hard Rock Cafe. And stuff happened throughout the day! Stuff...with stuff! I'll cover that later in comic form. Took commissions too. Group dinner yet again. Also: Hobos, appetizer puppies, and menstruation. OH! And Otakon banned any art featuring KEYBLADES. WTF, OTAKON.
Sunday get! Last day, Said bye to everyone, bought stuff, did stuff. We saw BB off, then me n' Steph caught a (delayed) bus back to NY. Once again oversold so we were separated. Made it back to NY, and here I am! That's pretty much it this year. =D
