That sounds really, really good.

Does your uni have an independent academic advisor? Ours employs one full-time member of staff who isn't affiliated with any teaching department. It's her job to sort out any problems that students have academically, whether because they've been ill or for other reasons. She'll liase between the student and the departments involved if needed. Maybe you could set up something like that?

We also have a "Fresh Start" programme for students who've left and want to return - we get extra support, our own student mentor, regular "check-up" e-mails, a newsletter, etc.

They're both things I've found essential while I've been at uni.

Definitely campaign for wireless access. I've only just had it in the past month cos we sorted out internet in my house, and now I can't survive without it.

A good idea would be to look at the universities people choose instead of Edge Hill. What attracted them away? Which other universities in the area offer similar courses? What facilities do they offer students?

ive got the wheels in motion now... i am just waiting to receive my 'what i can and cant do' regards advertising/campaigning etc.. apparently there is a budget which only allows me to print off say 200 A4 sized posters... and apparently i can only advertise around university... like im gonna agree or stick to that... my best mates own the biggest/best student bar in town... far better than the uni bar.. and that will be like my unofficial 'home'... there are rumours that i will be disqualified if any of my posters go up in my mates pub... but that threat doesnt bother me... what can id o about it if my mates choose to advertise a different poster in their pub saying vote for me?? thats nothing to do with me and also what they put on the walls of THEIR pub is no-one elses business but their own;)! hehe i love the conflict already.. just wait til i start my smear campaign against the other candidates:D lol
