Unfortunately, because these people have a combination of being both rather dim and seemingly feeling like they're more intelligent than everyone else, it's very hard to have any dialogue with them.
I have a line stolen from Londo in Bablylon 5 for just such people:- "Arrogance and ignorance in the same package, how efficient of you!" Of course, most people take it as a compliment ...
I think the obvious problems with a dictatorship are the lack of accountability and the problems with selection criteria. Even if we end up with a genuinely benevolent dictator, that doesn't mean that we'll agree with his/her politics and values
( ... )
No, it's not a serious proposal firstly because it is built on an assumption that the Benevolent Dictator Of Your Dreams actually could exist. Even if they did they would by definition be making hard decisions which would make them unpopular with many if not most. And at that point the very fact they were a dictator would be the problem.
No, it wouldn't work. I'm not entirely sure that representative democracy works wither. I don't think anything that involves a selection process works because the selection process is inherently subject to corruption, ignorance, self-interest and various other things as soon as you put any person in it. Would random selection work better? You could come up with some interesting ideas on how to try to make something workable from that, but it's not a Serious suggestion either ;)
I rather like the Douglas Adams observation that "Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."
