No, but seriously. I don't know if it's a regional thing or whatever but 95% of the people I meet say I speak Mandarin without an accent or only a small trace of one, but there's always one or two people who say I have a heavy accent. I guess you're one, and then I have a different friend who says the same thing. The rest of the people I know don't hear a difference.
And no, it's not only the people who would feel bad about saying I have an accent. =P

I mean, I spoke Chinese in Taiwan just like I spoke at home. And personally, I don't think I changed during these years. But when I went back last year, everyone told me I have some accent :/
Oh well, let's see how Taiwanese say about it :p

Alternatively, it could be that I speak Mandarin better when I go somewhere where everyone is constantly speaking it.
