bad news: bike gone

Nov 23, 2009 11:43

Last Friday, when I had my bags packed to cycle to my boyfriend for the weekend I found that my bike was missing. And I couldn't find my bike keys, That would be the second bike within 1 year I loose due to forgetting locking it. *grrrom* This stresses me. Not only because of the loss of a bike, (and the money a new one will cost) but I also don't ( Read more... )

Some of that is quite normal, but I am getting more that way - so is wife, due to normal aging.

Have taken to making lists for standard checkpoints - bedtime, going out time, etc, and taken to routinely (obsessively? but it isn't obsessive if you really forget, is it?) checking things - door locked, stove turned off (don't ask), yes, I fixed up the coffee before I sat down, but did I actually turn it on? sort of things.

The down side is that one has to remember to check the $^(*^%(*^%$ list!! The up side is, that you can teach an old dog new tricks, it just takes longer, and these days I do the things and check the list for confirmation. It's just a way of forming a habit more gradually.

And I still forget things at times - left our storage cage unlocked last week, but was fortunate (and there wasn't anything as attractive as a bike it it, and it's out of the way.) So I've got to work on that, too.

Good luck!

yes, build up a routine. The problem was that it works fine as long as it all goes according to plan but I tend to forget things when something new/different happens. For example when I get a plastic bag from my saddlebags and it tears and my shopping rolls all over the street and I have my arms full of apples and whatever. All I can think of is getting the stuff in side. This time it was most likely the extra lights I had on my bike, my regular lamps were powerless so I had bought some add-ons and I had to remove them, but that was an disturbance of my routine. So, sigh.
I think it might be a good idea to buy a bright lock and put it in a basket in front of my bike (that is, in my eye sight) instead of in my saddlebags (where it is out of side).
