1. Totally disagree. Considering that so many had been killed ONSCREEN, it's very tasteful that not everyone be killed in the narrators (that is, Harry's) viewing, to give more reality to the world we're inhabitting. Some times, you'll come back from the war to find your good friend dead-- that's good, grounded stuff. Especially the numbness thereafter

I suspect a lot of this book was shaped by Rowling's horror at her own fandom. Which, to be fair, is so screwed up and flat out wanky that it terrifies me, and I'm used to fandom. The only wankier fandom out there are the LotR movies. (Legolas, yanno. Elves.) So I can understand her desire to, for example, wrest control of her creation back from the insane fen that pair everyone with everyone happily ever after lalala.
