Over the last few months, I have fallen below 70 friends due to both a lack of posting on my part and a handful of my LJ friends moving on from LJ. Most folks on my list are librarians--like, half--so, I probably wouldn't help with diversifying your list.

most of my friends dont write anymore. but im also not friends with many people i dont actually know in real life. i do love reading my friend the_wretching shes a pretty amazing writer.
