You know, I can't help but think that if Thorin could lower himself to fight a little dirty now and then, he might not have to rely on Hobbits and giant eagles to save his ass from his own vendettas

Ohhh, yeah. And it strikes me that Thorin was a great leader, but a shitty diplomat. Man, that quest would have gone a lot better with Henry Kissinger along.
A friend of mine is wild about Dis, who is Thorin's sister and mother of Fili and Kili. There's just enough mentioned about her in one of the appendixes to make you realize if she was a fully developed character? She'd have been fun, from the way my friend goes on about her. *grin* Erebor wasn't kind to her, neither was Moria in the end though. She lost a lot of family to the stupidity of greed, more than honor. There's art on tumblr that turns up on her, but i'd have to prod my friend to get links.
Ooh, cool! :D I need to look her up. (DAMN IT, WHY DID SHE HAVE TO LOSE TWO OF HER SONS? Thorin, you really, REALLY suck at diplomacy. Money now, might later. Seriously, dude, which is more important: gold that you can mine more of, or getting your home and your throne back?)
I dunno. I identify WILDLY with the Dwarves more than any other race in Middle Earth (even though I really, REALLY want a Hobbit hole), but this lust for gold they've got. It's just as bad as Gollum with the ring.

Now where would the fun be in Dr. Kissinger would lead the group of merry men? Then again, I see Kissinger more Dwarf than Hobbit :)
