I'm starting to really dislike math. It's the only subject you can get all of the answers right to an exam and still get a 50%. I feel like my teacher cares more about precise proof formulations than understanding. He's kind of a jerk, too. I went snowboarding today. Wow. It was amazing. Canada was good, but I got so much better BECAUSE of Canada that I can ride like crazy now. I nailed 5 different boxes, and I've never grinded a box before! I landed my first 180, almost did a 360 (finished the turn on the ground), and got HUUUUGE air... with indy grabs. I am actually enjoying quantum mechanics for once. Anlage is an outstanding professor, and his office hours are extremely useful. He had us work out the problems ourselves so that we felt smart, but he pointed us in the right direction so we didn't get lost. I got my homework done and feel great about it ( Read more... )

We split up into groups today in String Theory. The people who attended class formed groups and the people that didn't attend class formed a group. Their group wasn't big enough. Because Gates knows me, he stuck me with this group, the irresponsible group.

I really hope I don't have to pull everyone else's weight this semester.

So break has finally come to an end, and I just had my first two days of classes. Now that I've had every first class, I'll analyze my expectations for the courses, so I can look back and laugh when none of them come true.

So... in attempting to build my metal detector, I blew a fuse in the power generator I borrowed from lecture demo. Great. Before that, I burned my hands and cut myself up on the solder and wire. I guess I was never really meant to be an experimentalist.
