This is actually the first time I've ever posted a quiz/meme, so I wanted it to be something extremely significant and revealing and thought-provoking.....
That's exactly who I wanted to be, too! Luck is with me.
And who made me so very happy? Shefki Kuqi, that's who. I'm late with this (slow reflexes) but a squee doesn't ask the time.
Finland beat Armenia 3-1 on Saturday (World Cup 2006 qualifiers), and I sang and yelled and danced and was merry. Yeah, yeah, you go ahead with your "Armenia, pfhhsshhhaaawww"s and "Two goals by Kuqi and one by Eremenko Jr... so, were there some Finns on the field too?"s -- I don't give a toss whether Kuqi's from Härmä or from Haiti if he scores us goals like that. His shots were beautiful, and so was his dignified, nonchalant glowiness after his second goal. Well, I mean, as much dignity as you can have in that situation. Besides, he totally got groped! *GLEEEE*. Beautiful.
Watching footie isn't fun if you can't rage as well as gloat. I was furious at the refs for innumerable things, most particularly for missing an Armenian (sorry, I forgot the names of the entire Armenian team as soon as the game was over) COMPLETELY obviously, outrageously swatting the ball with his hand. He just jumped and slugged, wham, like he was playing basketball. It was clearly deliberate, and yet: no whistle, no nothing. I still fume. And there were loads of tackles. Damned annoying, but they're always there, so I am growing accustomed to them, unfortunately. I just flip a vaguely irate finger at the TV screen without bothering to work up a good rant.
Sami Hyypiä (*eeeeee!*) played fine, even though he didn't score. And dear almighty, if that man isn't a treat for the eyes... He is, in a word, statuesque. I'm referring to his looks of course, not the way he plays. And he looks so stereotypically Finnish it would be ridiculous if it wasn't so hot. Like most stereotypes, the one about all Finns being blue-eyed, tall, pale, blonde, fit vikings has no basis in reality... It just seems someone forgot to inform Hyypiä of that. You won't hear me complain. ^___^
At the moment I fret, FRET, over the Finland-Holland game, which is on Wednesday. And I fret over missing it on telly because it's on at a highly inconvenient time for me and my VCR's dead.
A sidenote: Armenia had a player whose first name was Hamlet. How cool is that? Although as far as Shakespearean names go, "Prospero" would indisputably be number one. I also quite like "Iachimo" (but I'm not sure how strongly that's associated with Shakespeare), "Pistol" and "Banquo". (Though I have no idea what "Banquo" means. If anything.) And "Mistress Quickly". Hee!
