I can cope with Bush getting in more this time than I could with it last time. He ACTUALLY won this time without the use of a bodgy electoral system that discriminates against black people etc. He ACTUALLY got >50% of the popular vote. Though I don't like him, I have to at least give it to him this time that he was elected far more fairly.
However,
If that's not scary nothing is. This is just the first quarter of the article in today's herald sun p30. Even the right wing Herald Sun journo admits this would "discriminate against the less-educated and low-income-earners". I'm pretty sure it'd give Howard and the Liberal Party a monopoly on federal government. We probably need a referendum to enshrine compulsory voting into the Constitution before anyone gets rid of it.
well they can do whatever they like subject to what is contained within
I think women's rights are pretty safe because howard still has to be elected in 3 years time, and many things pertaining to women's rights are controlled by states rather than the commonwealth anyway.
Nick, be more precise. Its the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act 1900 Imp). Its Mabo & Ors v Queensland (No 2) (1992) 175 CLR 1. And, its the "vibe" maaaate. Anyone for a Bonnie Doon trip?
