So my landlord told me I would have to find someone to sublet my place for August and that he would then sign a lease with that person. I just got a call saying that they're showing places on Friday and could I make my place ready for them to show it this Friday between 1 & 4. WTF? So putting the ad on craigslist and dealing with the 60 emails

Just because he's showing it doesn't mean you're off the hook. Telling you you are responsible for finding a subtenant means that he expects you to pay if it sits empty. On the other hand, it's in everyone's interest to have the placed rented to someone who's actually in the state so he'll keep looking too.
If you've found someone you'd better let him know quickly.

I finally got him on the phone and he told me that if he knew that it was going to be this easy to rent he wouldn't have put the burden on me. Apparently so many people want it (site unseen even) that they're going to go by application. So thanks a fucking lot.
