AUTHOR: Wild Columbine
PAIRING: Jack & Ennis
FEEDBACK: Yes please - good, bad or indifferent
TITLE: A Sweeter Life, Pt 2
RATING: NC-17, language, m/m sex
DISCLAIMER: These characters are the wonderful Annie Proulx's, as is virtually all of the background story. I'm just using them so I can feel a little bit better about the tragedy of the original ( Read more... )

It's wonderfully sad and fated....A believable alternate reality-and they still come together....

I really liked the disappearance act with the green truck; Ennis's paranoia having time to fester those years before meeting Jack. Very scary and real..nice touch about KE. You have him both concerned and not stupid, either. But clueless, still. Nice balance. I get the sense of what the dad would've been like, kind of matter of fact about certain things, but in a hard way. I sense KE is the echo. No wonder Ennis stears clear of him..
And the love scenes,...does a heart and soul good to see the reality of true love played out subtly but powerfully.

Nice work.

That was a beautiful story. I discussed just the other day with a good friend about BBM-stories, why we read them (I'm no writer, just read stories). And we both agreed that we need it for healing, to get over the unbearable end of the original story.
And your story is a very sweet pill, healing guaranteed, lol.
Thank you very much for sharing

Not too sweet, I hope. I do so agree about the unbearable ending of the original and I'd never want to sugar-coat that in any way. Thank you for your comments.

No, it was no sugar coat, I wouldn't like that either. But I love AU's like yours that have a happy ending though Jack and Ennis have to struggle with their fears and the times they are living in, just like in your story. The worst on A.P.'s story is that Ennis forced them to have this miserable life because he wanted to save them from the hate and the tire irons but it didn't work. So I love stories where they fight together against their demons ^_^, no no sugar candy...

I really enjoyed your writing style in this and how you described everything. The way Jack finally went out to look for Ennis and well KE for being a big man who seemed tough and all seems to have a heart and a good soul after all and that is a good thing, thank god Jack went and rescued Ennis and well yes fate has its ways of bringing things together doesn't it. joe

Thank you, Joe. Glad you liked KE. I can get a bit Pollyanna-ish with secondary characters so I hope he wasn't too unbelievable!
