ONE A THEM GUYS: A small Christmas tale.

Brendan had been a regular at the Salvation Army's Christmas dinner for five years and more. It was always a good time to draw in the threads of connection with old friends, and to find out which ones had tangled with the law or had unraveled and come to a premature end.

There's equal amount of hope and despair in this little story, I'd choose to concentrate on the look of pure happiness on ennis's face.

no one can take those fond twist memories from him.
