I don't know how I'd feel if someone were to send me one of these "intervention" emails.
I mean, I get the message, but -- "when's the last time you asked a human instead of asking google?"

...are you serious?

I often ask the people around me about things, but they always reply, "I think it's..."
I commonly google or wiki things when I seek a more technical or difinitive reply.

And the online form to generate an unplugging intevention email is quite ironic

there's definitely some irony there.

and I swear my brain's contents would be significantly less if I never used google or wikipedia! I google the most mundane things to the most arcane things. asking people stuff is fine and dandy, but if I were to approach someone and ask some of the stuff that pops into my head-- that would be very time-consuming, and I'd probably alienate myself pretty quickly, haha.

you just reach more hits/results when you "plug in," which is why that statement really bothers me. even "google scholar" has helped me find a bunch of stuff for research papers.
I can't imagine using a card catalog or something ever again. how painful!

I do enjoy the wonderful linkability of google. Stream of consciousness searching and wandering from topic to topic.

At my colleges, the card catalog was a computer databse. I did find topic searches quite helpful then.
