question about ffx-2 and summoners

I'm worried this question was answered in the game and I'm just missing something very obvious, but... Beclem says that summoners are useless because Sin is gone. But people still die, which means the Sending still needs to be performed. If the fayth are gone, how do people get Sent? Or do they not, and there are just more fiends? Clearly there are ( Read more... )

You know, I've been thinking about that myself --

But you know, in FFX, the al bhed dealt without sendings just fine, and I always thought that in FFX-2 everyone just...beat up fiends when they appeared, same as always. There were a lot in the first game too, everywhere there should have been summoners.

But you know, wasn't there some correlation between happiness and fiends? Like if you were happy you were less likely to go all fiend on someone's ass? Maybe since Sin is gone they don't have as big a fiend issue?

Everyone does still beat up fiends when they appear, like in X, but I imagine the reason there were so many fiends are in X is that summoners couldn't be everywhere at once. Probably the Sendings just reduced the number of fiends.

It wasn't a happiness thing, it was a resentment thing. Like with ghosts: someone might have been very happy in life and therefore want to stick around after death. If there was any unfinished business, I think - that's the impression I got anyway. What Yuna said was that someone wouldn't accept their death and would gradually grow to resent the living, and presto! Fiend.
