star trek (i am the last one to see it, i know)

Finally saw Star Trek (Saturday night)!

The good:
-Zachary Quinto was just as awesome as always
-Chris Pine = beautiful
-Anton Yelchin = adorable, though perhaps not as much as he was in Charlie Bartlett, since almost nothing can top that
-Special effects were awesome!
-Zachary Quinto!
-Romulan tentacle ship!
-Scotty and Keenser!
-Spock!
-The way that Spock's first "Live long and prosper" sounded remarkably like "Fuck you douchebags"
-SO MANY EXPLOSIONS
-Chekov's accent
-Zachary Quinto!
-The dialogue in general - but especially scenes with Spock, who is so snarky without betraying any emotion
-The gratuitous but still cool appearance of Leonard Nimoy
-So much witty banter
-Did I mention Zachary Quinto?

Also: is it wrong that when Spock snapped and went all KAPOW on Kirk's ass, I found it really, really hot?
My brain said yes at first, but upon further reflection, I think I actually understand why: passion, in whatever form, is still passion. Spock spends his whole life denying himself emotion and then when he finally gives in - it's just as intense as sex.

Or maybe it's just because Zachary Quinto was on top of Chris Pine getting sweaty.

The bad:
-Uhura did virtually nothing. She a) looked pretty, b) wore a short skirt, c) translated one letter, and d) kissed and comforted Spock. For someone who was a top student and apparently really good at everything, she had a pretty small part. This really frustrates me, because she is totally kickass when she gets the chance but I feel like she was just shoved aside..
-Spock and Uhura together. Not only am I obviously a Spock/Kirk shipper, but - it just seemed so out of the blue, considering alternate universe and everything. They can be written really well, and it's not like I hate them together... I just don't have a real love for it.
-WHAT WAS WITH THE SHORT SKIRTS. At first, I was like, Hey, isn't it awesome that the uniforms aren't showing cleavage? And then it zooms out and I went, Goddamnitall. I mean, okay, I don't like it but I realize skirts are usually mandatory for female uniforms. But some of them were really short, like I'm talking that one nurse who walked by and I did a double-take because WHAT.
-While the Spock-and-Kirk bitter rivalry was fun at times, I would've loved some old-school BFF moments.

Sorry if I pissed anyone off with my snark. Thoughts? I would love to hear them.
