as one coming from a fucked up family, my sympathies.
on the other hand, follow your instinct with these things. take care of yourself, and the wife first and foremost. she is your family, and you two are your #1 priority above all else.
i know, it sucks beyond all possible suckitude. i hope everything turns out OK.

I know this is my opinion and you'll like it or lump it.
But no matter what happens don't let anything come between you and your family. I'm a firm believer that no matter what happens, anything that comes from family is forgiveable...and I do mean anything.
My cousin ran into almost the exact same problems at about the same age, a little younger actually. She has been married twice, has three kids from two to three different fathers and has been pretty fucked up. But I still forgave her, no matter what happened. I rode out the stormy seas of her life and it looks like she's finally getting it together.
My long point is that it will all work out in the end, no matter what. Support the entire family no matter what happens.

People do survive this, as you well know. Not that my experience is any guarantee....
The only real advice I can give is never stop loving her. Whatever else happens, never stop loving her.
