Well, apparently an oven can decide that when you turn it off you really mean CRANK IT UP ALL THE WAY AND LOCK THE DOOR. So, our oven is broken. The soonest a new one can be delivered is Friday, so this week's dinners will be interesting. I have a freezer full of food, but most of it requires the oven. Hopefully I have enough leftovers tucked away ( Read more... )

Dr Suess is THE WORST! The books are long and so boring. I skip most of the pages and it doesn't make a difference. Cat in the hat is the only one I'm willing to read regularly but we mostly just act out the scenes (the reward of having a weirdly theatrical toddler).

Ha! I'm glad I'm not alone in this. West made me read Cat in the Hat and Cat in the Hat Comes Back last night. He wanted me to read the second one again after all that, but that was not happening.

Cat in the hat comes back is particularly bad. Wtf is up with the little cats and their guns *killing* the snow?!

Seriously! I try to remember to change "kill" to "get" because that's the extent of my cleverness.

Thanks for the book recs! I will put them on my library wish list! I love longer reads, I'm starting to be on the hunt for long-ish books for kids just a little older than West but still with pictures on every page. There's a Bunnicula Christmas book that is just perfect- several chapters but it's still pretty short, and enough pictures to keep him sitting just when he would be losing the patience between page turns. Also, I am trying to make a concerted effort to read to him books about girls that aren't princesses or tv characters, so if you have any good recommendations in that arena I'm all ears!

I think most of our favorite girl books are chapter-book style, but I'm happy to try. Here are some non-princess picture books about girls ( ... )
