Buffy was sitting at her vanity, popping a dangly earring into her ear when she heard a knock at the door. She assumed it was Xander stopping by for a late lunch or maybe Willow home to take a nap before her next class. But, they usually never knocked.
She rushed down the stairs and opened the door to see a very worried looking Giles. "Giles!" she said, her brows rising in surprise. A smile found its way easily onto her face, and she pulled her Watcher into a hug. "What are you doing here?"
He smiled and hugged her back, more than relieved to simply find her here and seemingly doing well. He knew that he could have called before now, but he had spent so much time in airplanes and traveling...there just didn't seem to be the time. He knew that was no excuse, but it was what it was.
"It's...quite a long story, Buffy," he admitted to her. "There's been a lot going on lately." It seemed that his intent upon finding Buffy alive had been keeping his energy up, because, since he had found her OK, and since she seemed relatively happy so he could assume nothing had happened here yet, he felt so tired all of a sudden. He had been 'running on empty' as an America would say, for quite a while. "May I come in?"
Buffy's brows knitted together in concern when she pulled back from the hug. As far as she knew, everything was peachy with a side of keen in Sunnydale, which was so not of the norm. So, of course, something was brewing.
She moved out of the way and closed the door behind Giles as he came into the house. "A lot going on, I'm guessing elsewhere 'cause it's been pretty boring and normal around here lately. Not that I'm complaining," she said, moving in to the living room.
She took a seat on the couch and leaned forward, "So, what's going on?"
He nodded when she said that things were dull here. In Sunnydale, that usually meant that someone was preparing a strike soon, and he knew that this time was no different. He walked inside, sitting beside her on the sofa, feeling himself sink into it, and having to remind himself that now was not the time to go to sleep. That would come soon enough, hopefully. At least a couple of hours.
"Something's coming, Buffy," he said to her. "Something bigger than any of us have ever faced before. I'm...not even sure where to begin in explaining it." Where does one begin in telling a young woman that the first of all evil is starting to attack the Slayer line, and he had no clue as to why or how to stop it?
