Katelyn tossed and she turned. It was rare that she did not fall quickly to sleep to nap lightly the entire night through. But tonight, on this night, she had the covers pulled close to her chest only to find no rest in her slumber. "No," she murmured in her sleep. Thunder and lightning raged on outside. "No...don't ( Read more... )

The first cry let Liz bolt up in her bed and hit her head against the top half of the bunk bed. It was Katelyn, she knew that. Katelyn who cried out in fear or... or in pain. Liz found it difficult to tell. That confused her for a moment, since she was always able to tell what other people felt, but the next little squeal banned that thought from her mind.

Within a few moments, Liz had rolled out of bed and climbed up to her girlfriend. She gently - though still firmer than she realized - shook the girl in an attempt to wake her up from whatever nightmare she was facing.

"Katelyn! Katelyn, it's okay. It's just a nightmare. Katelyn, please wake up? Come on... there's nothing here, it's just me. It's Liz. Everything is alright."

Another scream, one of pure terror as if her very life were about to be ended. Tears poured from her eyes, and words were lost in an incomprehensible babble. Through the sobs the occasional word could be made out, but these were only cries for help or the pleas for whatever the girl faced to stop.

As Liz tried to shake her awake, Kate's eyes did open but she still cried as if being put through the most frightening experience possible. Blue eyes remained unfocused, not really looking at anything but rather appearing as if she were entranced, lost in a daze. Even with her eyes now open Kate acted as if she couldn't see Liz, their room, or anything else that would rouse her from her nightmare. Still she cried, terrified beyond words despite the reassurances from her most special person.

Liz began to panic a little. This wasn't like Katelyn at all. And even more frightening, she didn't know what was wrong. Her powers usually helped her with understanding other people's fears and emotions. But right now, she couldn't feel anything.

Not sure what else she could do, Liz lay beside her girlfriend and wrapped her arms tightly around her. She hushed and hummed and spoke gently to her distraught, terrified girlfriend while one hand ran through Katelyn's hair. Gentle kisses were placed on the girl's cheek, sweet words were whispered in her ear. Liz used everything in her arsenal to try and calm Katelyn down from her terrifying nightmare. But it seemed that Katelyn didn't hear her or was not aware of her presence. Despite all of that, Liz kept trying and hoped that Kate would calm down soon, so she could tell her what was wrong.

((OOC: I guess Liz will bruise Kate a bit with that tight hug... since she is much more stronger now. XD;))

The calming gestures seemed to help, but only somewhat. Kate still bawled as if her entire life had been ripped away from her, and though she tried to speak it was the longest time before anything intelligible could be understood through those sobs. Nothing seemed to break through...even the small butterfly kisses or the reassuring feeling of Liz's fingers running through her hair, things that Katelyn adored most of all ( ... )
