Strange people grab at me

Mar 17, 2006 13:42

Many people try to pinch me today. I do not understand why...I am only told that I am wrong for not wearing green? The customs of this new land are very strange to me.

I must remember to ask Kalinka the Green, or Elpafba from the computer. Surely one of them would know.

michiru, underwear, elphaba, rei, minako, rumors, laurian, kalinka, haruka, simon, usagi, st patrick's day, fighting, mamoru, gossip

It's yet another special day, when everyone dresses the way I do.

The custom is to pinch anyone who isn't wearing at least some sort of green color. I'll admit that it may seem an odd thing to do, and I personally don't bother pinching anyone.

Also, it's "Elphaba." Their skin is green, though it would seem that no one believed that counted.

(OOC: Freudian typo removed.)

Wearing green has to do with St. Patrick's Day. Originally an Irish celebration to honour Saint Patrick, who brought the Christian believes to the Irish people. The "wearing of the green" comes from the fact that the shamrock is the national plant. National hero and national plant combine in one big drinking party called St. Patrick's Day.

The reason why it's celebrated here to a certain degree as well has to do with the many Irish emigrants, who hoped to find a better life in America. Though I think it stops with wearing green clothes and pinch those who don't.

I don't celebrate this day, though. I'm not Irish, after all. I've got another national day to celebrate, which means a lot more to me.

I do not celebrate this Day of Patrick either, though the others do and my skin is becoming sore and red. Perhaps it would be less painful to celebrate it, I think.

You also come from different lands? That is very interesting...what is your homeland like? Why did you leave for America, do you seek a better life as well?

[OOC: Yeah, pretty much everyone here is foreign, but Katelyn doesn't know enough about "the average American" to really notice that yet. Guess it's hard for anyone to stand out when everyone has pink or aqua hair, or is a blonde-haired blue-eyed Japanese.] =P

You could. Or you just make sure everyone who tries to pinch you will regret it. I prefer the last option.

And most of the students come from different countries, mostly Japan, I think. I'm from Scotland. Most people think it's the same as Ireland, because they are close to each other, but there are quite a few differences.

And I came to America for St. Catherine's, because my order - where I live - could not provide the right training anymore. So I suppose you could say that in a way I seek a better life.

OOC: Yeah, true. XD; But it was more to explain everything to Katelyn. ^^;

St. Patrick's day... I'd never heard of it. And my name is Elphaba, not "Elpafda."

Anyone who pinched me regretted it. And I told them that I was already wearing green, weather I was supposed to be or not.

I didn't regret it one bit.

I'll make you regret it. I dont think it was really fair for you to pinch me, I mean, I'm wearing green all over, aren't I?

If I had to wear that so-not-me color on purpose, you should, too.

Students technically aren't allowed to wear something besides their usual uniforms or gym clothes during school hours, anyway.

It's rather silly to worry about under the circumstances, not that it isn't immature to begin with.

So we are not allowed to wear underwear, Professor? *raises sceptically an eyebrow*

No, I suppose not, if you take things literally. However, professors are not allowed to check underwear, either. You're free to suggest that be changed, but I certainly won't. Especially considering the continued presence of Professor Tenou.

So in that case, we could still wear green underwear.

And I am absolutely positive the school policy will allow certain small attachment such as rings, earrings, necklaces, etc.

And that would be a disaster. Not only with Professor Tenou around, but certain male professors as well.

Heckuva lot of info considering the naive start. Though I'm dying laughing over here, watching how "Erm...why's everyone wearing green?" turned into a lengthy discussion on flipping skirts and rules banning underwear and Simon being a goober! XD

It's an awesome "I Love Tangents" kind of post that brings *everyone* into the fold. ^_^
