Spring cleaning...

...literally, and figuratively. I've been neglecting livejournal terribly, and I'm sure I've missed things, please don't be offended if I've failed to comment.

April was so hectic, that I never got around to actually talking about the Disney World trip, and now it seems like it was a long time ago. I just learned that the ANCC (conference Aaron went ( Read more... )

I can help you with the puking and blacking out, but slutiness, I also am not one to teach you about that. ;)

We'd move to Charlotte with you guys! And hey, if you don't like it, what would you do, go back to Vermont? Fine by me! Of course, that's like 3 years off for us as well.

What was buried underneath all that vegetation?

And you're not the only one who's addicted to that show and that guy. Apparently all the women in my department were attracted to scruffy, sarcastic, British guys too.

Yay for a home based job! I'm leaning more and more towards being a stay-at-home Mom, so I think that's what I'll be looking for after our first kid is born. Hell, maybe I could be a full time surrogate. Whew! That would be an exhausting job. But it works out to about $12.50 an hour or something over the 9 months. Then again, your exit review is a toughy!

Wow that is really lucky! Is it really expensive? I'd like to send our kids to a nice school like that.

Randomly, I thought you might find this interesting: http://www.energyfederation.org/lowimpactliving/default.php/cPath/404_429

Once again I've forgotten how to do a link, sorry.

Oh yay! North Carolina! we were thinking about moving there some day too! It's cheap as hell, and outdoorsy!

I've been bombarded by positive information about North Carolina for several days now, from a few different sources! I guess I have no reason to say no! See you there!

Well, I can think of two big reasons...

1) Hicks.

2) Humidity.

But if we convinced all of our friends and family to move there too, it wouldn't matter.

Then again, there is also the job situation... you get paid less in places like that and there are less high paying jobs to be found. So, in short, you can't afford as much, and the prices don't see as luring.

1) Hicks.
Yeah, well, we have those here, too. I'm used to it.

2) Humidity.
Hm, I forgot about that part. I'm fine with "hot"...but humidity... I've changed my mind, we're staying here.

I'd seriously recommend Durham over Charlotte. Charlotte is full of Republicans and bankers. There's three farmer's markerts in our area, and the Durham one has a permanent emplacement (yay free range organic eggs!). We got a gallon of strawberries last week for $8. There's a local dairy where we get out milk (Maple View Creamery) and TONS of snotty food, wine, and beer in the area. Seriously, the Triangle area has turned out to be absolutely fantastic. You can live with the snotty hippies in Chapel Hill or Carrborro (excellent music scene there), or the laid back hippies of Durham. There's a free public bronze casting facility, crazy crafts warehouse / Recycle North analog, and you can get real maple syrup on your breakfast at Guglhupf (one of the best bakeries I've been to). There's about 6 CSA's (community supported agriculture). We went with the one this year which includes local pork. Duke owns a couple thousand acres of forest in the middle of Durham, so the South Burlington style sprawl and malls is pushed way out of town. ( ... )

Yes, Durham is actually what Aaron meant when he was telling me about it (he told me most of the same stuff you did, I guess you'd spoken earlier in the day) he just couldn't remember the name, so I said Charlotte. He just did some Googling a few minutes ago and found that the only Waldorf school in the state is in Chapel Hill, so it's a good bet that we'll be in the Triangle area. Yay for snotty hippies, it'll feel just like home!

I think the Chamber of Commerce should pay you. :)

So, since the issue has been raised, how IS the humidity? And don't sugar-coat it!
