brrr!

We had another ice storm yesterday. I think that's the fourth time this winter that it has literally rained ice--not hail, not sleet--I suppose it could be called freezing rain, but that somehow doesn't do it justice. Everything gets thickly coated with ice. I love the look of the trees--it looks like they've been dipped in molten glass, then ( Read more... )

Yay! That sounds so wonderful! I can't wait to live there! And I think we'll be arriving at the perfect time for me to adjust... Spring! Everything will be starting to grow back (well, maybe muddy, but about to start to grow back) and I'll get to have my first non-Southern California summer and then gradually get into the cold starting with a beautiful Fall! I'll be a live-in Leaf peeper! Then I'll get to deal with the cold and the shoveling and the frost bitten ears and the ice picking of my car door!

But seriously, I can't fucking wait to get there!

Oh, and on a side note: Do you and Aaron refer to Athena and I as "Michael and Athena" as you did in this post, or "Athena and Michael"? I have this theory of how people say couples names and it has nothing to do with whom they've known longer or who's the male/female. Let me know so I can confirm my hypothesis.

Oh, and for the two of you my rule doesn't count because you have the same name. In fact, we never know who we say first unless we type it. Most of the time we just say, "The Erins" but I can't even really type it because it's not "The Erins" any more than it's "The Aarons". I should just start typing "The Æryns."

Heh, yes, our charming mud season will welcome you. Sorry you'll miss Sugar On Snow, because you will LOVE that, but there's always next year.

Umm... I think I mostly say Michael and Athena; like, 75% of the time. It flows off the tongue (well, off the fingertips, I suppose) better, in my opinion. I think Aaron's more like 50/50 on how he says it. Does that help?

teehee, what does your theory do with our names?

Nice pictures - another ice storm? And not a trivial one either, wow.

I just added two more pictures I took this morning, over on Bishop rd. Everything is still glittering, though it's hard to tell in the second picture. There are a lot of tree branches down, and there were scattered minor power outages while the storm was happening. As far as I know, everything was fixed by yesterday, though they're still picking up branches. I suppose this is just what we have, instead of the hurricanes they have in the south!

unrelated to your nifty pictures - yes I'd be happy to knit you a hat! What kind of a hat are you interested in?

Oh, yay! I have a simple hat that I love--it's pink cashmere, and it doesn't have any fancy stitches or anything. I want a similar one in white or ivory cashmere but I can't find one! Should I take a picture of the pink one for you?

Yes, a picture would be perfect! you can e-mail it to me at rebekah dot herrick at gmail dot com.

Cashmere is tricky, no that's not right, cashmere is expensive. Kaleidoscope yarns has some good choices. If cashmere is too expensive I recommend Suri alpaca or regular alpaca. Both are very soft and not so itchy as regular wool. But it'll depend on what size yarn the hat needs anyway...
