My cat died today... :( He was 17 years old, which is definately a long life in cat years, but that doesn't make it hurt any less. As weird as it sounds, it's like losing a younger sibling. My younger brother is 18, and so we've had my cat almost as long. It was sad - I actually watched him go. I never want to witness anything like that again, ( Read more... )

*hug* I hate losing pets. We lost our cat -he was almost 15, and I had just turned 16 at the time. That was one of the hardest days of my life. That is a really sweet poem. I hope you're okay.

Thanks, Cat.. Yea. I'm doing much better today after a good night of sleep. It is hard cause he has been my cat since I was 5 -- so it's like I'm just used to having him around.. But I know it'll get better!

I'm so sorry! I know exactly how you feel. My dog died about a year ago and we got her when I was in the first grade. We didn't put her to sleep either. She was in pain and the vet would give her stuff and she would seem ok again, but it would wear off, and then we would have to keep getting stronger stuff. We all knew what we had to do, but we kept putting it off because it's so hard. We kept thinking "what if she has another month and we take it away from her?" and "the pills are working, she's not in pain anymore!" My mom finally found her in her house one morning.

Don't feel selfish. It's not an easy decision. It's not like we can ask our pets how they feel or what they'd want. No matter what decision you would have made you would have felt guilty about it.

Yea... We knew Chandler wasn't doing well cause he was diagnosed with a tumor about a year ago... well, WE as in my mom and dad cause they didn't want to tell me before the wedding.. so I found out only a few months ago.

And things have just slowly been getting worse - and since Thursday he hasn't even been able to walk anymore, so we definately knew the time was coming. It was just a painful thing to watch. But my mom talked to the vet today and the vet assured us that Chandler didn't feel any pain -- and we kind of thought he was already in like, a kitty coma for a few minutes becuase he wasn't responding to his name, and just had a blank look. So that makes me feel better about the whole situation... and this way we know he lived as long as physically possible.

Oh no! Chandler, right? I'm sorry. I lost Millie and Linus, I know how you feel too.. it sucks. I still have their dog tags! lol I think a pet's death is so hard to take because they love so unconditionally.

I agree.. While Chandler did have a bit of a Siamese cat-attitude, he always knew when I was sad cause he would come sit on my lap.. Pets serious are like, best friends :) It definately is hard to lose pets. I seriously think it's almost like losing a sibling, but in a different way -- cause we're just so used to having them around. We have Chandler's cat tag on the fireplace, and I think it will help having little momentos like that around. And we'll meet Chandler, and Millie and Linus and Angela's dog at the rainbow bridge, so it's all good. :)
