Satay... I recognize the name, now that you mention it. And it's been seconded too! I'm gonna make that my next big meal out, I think.
Trudy's is good, though I'm such a big fan of Chuy's (and it's so close to my place!) that when I'm getting tex-mex it's hard to pull myself away from that option. Madras I've been to once, and it was VERY good. I'd forgotten about it, thanks for reminding me :)
Madras is way yummy - even the kiddo likes it (can you imagine getting a 2 year old to be excited about eating cooked spinach and cheese curds??) And it reheats really well (paneer butter masala is my fav, can't remember the name of the yummy spinach dish). Now I want to go to Madras for dinner tomorrow.
may I recommend these two pizza places in central Austin:
Salvation Pizza, 34th St just west of Guadalupe (the bacon, asparagus, and jalapeno pizza is to die for) Frank and Angie's pizza, West Ave, between 5th and 6th street
I do love pizza. From the sound of your recommendation (the first one, at least) it's not your traditional pizzeria. Which is probably a good thing. When it's "just a pizza place" I'm very picky about my pizza, but when it's kinda a specialty place I tend to be able to enjoy it more, for its uniqueness, than I otherwise would.
Have you had Mangia Pizza? Super deep dish (not a bad idea to call in advance and order if you are in any sort of rush, it takes 30 mins to cook). Offically it is "Chicago Stuffed" pizza.
Wow, so many, thanks! I won't have to scrounge around for a new place for quite a while :D
The only two I've been to on that list are Threadgills, which was certainly good for the type of food but not stuff I'm ever really in the mood for (I know, I'd make a poor Southerner), and Austin's Pizza, which is pretty good--but no Saccone's ;) Growing up a Jersey boy... well, I know what I'm looking for in a pizza place.
Haha I'm glad I'm reading this now, after having just had a huge meal at Chuy's, or I'd surely be SO HUNGRY.
Food/restaurant related question for all of Andrew's Austin friends who I don't know: Do you know of a restaurant right next to UT which has Caribbean-type food? I can't remember the name or exactly where it is, but it's in a strip facing a parking lot for UT that you access across a wooden bridge. When you enter the restaurant, there's a bar & the seating is off to the left. I remember they had really good fried yucca and I want to go back.
(I can't ask the people who introduced me to it, as they are my ex-husband and his best friend...) Thanks!
Not sure but you could be talking about Sao Paulo, which is described as "brazilian meets Tex-Mex." I can recommend them even if that isn't where you went before.

As for other types of food, I've always been a fan of Trudy's and Madras Pavilion as well.
