1. Name a movie you have seen more than 10 times.
There are several. I'll pick 3 for different reasons:
Monty Python and the Holy Grail - Why: because it's the one I've seen most. Over 20 times, probably. My friends and I were utter freaks about this movie. At one point I was able to recite the entire movie, scene after scene, from memory. And you wonder why I turned out like I did.
Back to the Future III - Why: this one was from my childhood. I had it on VHS, so if I was bored I'd often pop it in. I never stopped getting agitated and running around the room during the final scene; it didn't matter that I knew Clara wasn't going to fall and the DeLorean wasn't going to plunge into the ravine :)
Minority Report - Why: for some reason they played it every week on HBO or some other of those pay channels. I don't really like the movie all THAT much--it's okay but nothing spectacular--but it has a way of hooking you when you're procrastinating, or just passing through without anything else of great importance to do.
2. Name a movie you've seen multiple times in the theater.
Obviously I tend to only see movies once in the theater. There's a small list of ones I've seen twice. But I think I've only seen two movies three times or more in the theater: X2 and The Matrix.
3. Name an actor who would make you more inclined to see a movie.
Matt Damon. There are others, but I tend to see most movies ol' Matty's in ;)
4. Name an actor who would make you less likely to see a movie.
There are several. Funny thing is I tend to see things they're in, in spite of their presence because they're often in good movies *shrug*. Jude Law, Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller.
5.Name a movie you can and do quote from.
Oh geez, tons of them. But as I just saw it recently: Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Dude, Where's My Car? gets an honorable mention :)
6. Name a movie musical in which you know all of the lyrics to all of the songs.
Hmm... I can do most if not all of Chicago. The lyrics in Moulin Rouge! are trickier (yes, in spite of the fact that it's mostly redone pop songs), so I can't get as many of them.
7. Name a movie you have been known to sing along with.
Any and all :P I have to stop myself. Since I haven't mentioned it yet in my litany of frequently-watched movies, I'll say Caddyshack. Not that there's much singing in that one.
8. Name a movie you would recommend everyone see.
Amélie. Some people don't like it, but I don't understand why, unless you utterly detest subtitles/foreign films. It is my favorite movie.
9. Name a movie you own.
I own a ton, so I'll give you the most potentially embarrassing: Lords of Dogtown. So I have a thing for skaters. Honestly it's really not a bad docudrama, if that's what you're looking for.
10. Name an actor who launched his/her entertainment career in another medium but who has surprised you with his/her acting chops.
Queen Latifah. Dude, I totally LOVE her. Maybe she's not in the greatest movies (Chicago excluded), but she can act :)
11. Have you ever seen a movie in a drive-in? Yes. I don't recall which, but there's a drive-in still in operation in a nearby town where my parents live. We saw something that I kinda enjoyed but the conditions made it unpleasant. Especially the mosquitoes; we had the windows open for temperature and sound reasons :-/
12. Ever made out in a movie?
Yes. Couldn't tell you which ;)
13. Name a movie you keep meaning to see but you just haven't gotten around to yet.
There are several. Probably most notable: The Silence of the Lambs. Nope, I've never seen it. Saw Hannibal, but not Lambs.
14. Ever walked out of a movie?
I don't think so. I've wanted to a few times, come close to doing it, but I haven't. And I couldn't tell you which now, so obviously I wasn't scarred for life.
15. Name a movie that made you cry in the theater.
Dude, I cry at any movie that's worth anything. I'm a big softie :P I'm very easily affected by beautiful moments or strong emotional responses; it's almost never out of sadness.
16. Popcorn?
I'm with
the_lost_collar: Yes. With lots of butter. And salt.
17. How often do you go to the movies (as opposed to renting them or watching them at home)?
A whole lot less often than I should. Like maybe once every two months, maybe less. I need to start asking people to go to the movies with me. I know
vintagehandbag would go with me if she's free. A number of other folks, too.
18. What's the last movie you saw in the theater?
Monty Python and the Holy Grail! The last new release I saw was 300.
19. What's your favorite/preferred genre of movie?
Probably sci-fi action. Action in general tends to get me to the movies more readily, though I enjoy many kinds of movies if you can manage to drag me to them.
20. What's the first movie you remember seeing in the theater?
Hmm... that was so long ago. Possibly TMNT? The original, we're talking here. I probably saw some Disney shit before that, but I don't recall.
21. What movie do you wish you had never seen?
Hmm... Paparazzi.
22. What is the weirdest movie you enjoyed?
My favorite movies tend to be ones that are quirky in some fashion. All of these are among my favorite movies, and all are a little weird: Amélie, Donnie Darko, I <3 Huckabees, Garden State, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Being John Malkovich.
23. What is the scariest movie you've seen?
Hard to say. I don't watch a whole lot of horror movies; it's not a genre I enjoy much (partly because such a small percentage of the horror movies that I have seen have been good movies). Maybe 28 Days Later? At least that one was a fairly good movie and made me jump a few times too.
24. What is the funniest movie you've seen?
I must say, I love a movie that really makes me nearly fall out of my chair, and that usually happens the first viewing but not afterwards. There are two such movies, the ones that probably made me laugh hardest when I saw them in the theater: Rat Race and Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle. The latter might have staying power, I don't know, but I've only seen it once or twice. Rat Race loses A LOT in subsequent viewings (though I still like making other people who enjoy comedy (especially slapstick) watch it. Funniest consistently, on the other hand... maybe Monty Python and the Holy Grail, maybe Caddyshack, maybe Dude, Where's My Car?. Good times.
So, even if y'all don't do this quiz yourselves--if you made it this far, I'd like to hear from you at least your answer to which movie(s) you would recommend that I must see. It'd be great to catch some new belly-laugh comedy, too. Comment away!
And now for something completely different...
From
tryrugby:
Toys that exist and probably shouldn't. NOTE: Potentially NSFW (not terrible, probably won't be blocked or anything, but you definitely don't want your boss standing right there. Unless s/he has a good sense of humor!).
And aside from that... hmm. There's a few things to tell. Weekend before the one that just occurred, I biked 38 miles on Sunday with
abstractseaweed and
skip_conrad. And I must admit, it was fun, though I was TOTALLY daunted by the prospect heading into it. I still am not a fan of ANYTHING that requires me to wake up at 5:45am, but even there I'll admit it was nice to be done before the heat of the day (though all in all, we had GORGEOUS weather and it probably would have been fine for the rest of the day too. I didn't realize until after the ride that I didn't wear any sunblock, but a combination of it being early in the day and not in the hot summer season made it so that I only got the slightest bit pink which faded back to my usual pale in a day or so.
Anyway, in the end, I was able to do the ride with no problem. My butt was sore by the end (I really need one of those seats with a hole in the middle), and my legs were sore but not even half as much so as after our hiking trip in New Hampshire last year. I was even able to do my usual workout the next day with no problem. I ate and drank so much that weekend that I gained 5 pounds in spite of the exercise. Oops. It's gone again now (my weight means nothing unless it plateaus somewhere for a couple weeks). Working on bringing that number down consistently, though, and I've had a good start over the last week with some nice home cooking. I should continue that trend! Though I'm not going hardcore enough to deny myself my original plan of Chick-fil-A for tonight ;)
This past weekend was fun too. Jason came into town Thursday evening and we went to the Monty Python and the Holy Grail Feast at the Alamo Drafthouse (hence all the references to it above--in addition to being fair game for many of those questions, it was already fresh in my mind). It was very good food and a fun time. We fanatics who know the movie by heart were obviously trying hard not to quote out loud during the movie, but there were a few key moments where the afficionados couldn't hold back and most of the theater joined in a quote. This was especially prevalent during the Knights of Ni part (it's appropriate there anyway, stylistically. Like surround sound!).
On Friday we played some good WoW between my work and Todd's party; the weekend had some lovely instances and levelling on the whole. Dendris reached 63 and finished all his Hellfire Peninsula quests (aside from CE ones, which I'm delaying until I reach Honored with them). The party was interesting--I knew nobody but Todd and Jason, yet it was fun all the same. Pretty reserved. I was SO RIDICULOUSLY TIRED though, that I lay down on his couch and feel asleep despite it being mildly uncouth to do so. I was the life of the party, lemme tell you. I couldn't help it. But the wine and cheese were good, and the little conversation that I did end up having was good too. Makes me want to throw a party. Maybe after my parents visit? I'm definitely having a game night, either while they're here or soon afterward. We'll see how that goes. My place will have to be clean for once. Maybe I can keep it that way for a while.
And that's all I've got. Cheers!
